I always choose to review downloaded metadata, and never "Yes, accept". HBU?
When I download metadata (Control-D), I get the message:

How about you? Are there some people for whom "Yes (I trust that the downloaded metadata is better/accurate)" is their choice? Last edited by droopy; 06-18-2020 at 05:19 PM. |

I always review metadata, because I've (thankfully, rarely) had a few frustrating cases where Calibre returned a completely different book.

If the books' metadata is empty (e.g. apart from an ISBN) or absolute crap, I sometimes choose Yes and then look at what I have in Book Details.
Why do you ask? BR |

UPDATE: Like, what are they doing differently that let them implicitly trust the downloaded metadata? Last edited by droopy; 06-19-2020 at 01:07 PM. |

Hi! I think that when well-configured, download of metadata can be easy and safe. I have configured tags for commuting when downloaded and I use just one or two sources, the less (and affordable), the better. That's why I always choose Yes, of course it's never perfect and some tag must be added later but I think it's a workable compromise.

thanks for your reply. What do you mean by: 1. configuring tags for commuting when downloaded? 2. affordable sources? |

You probably already know that when you click on Modify Metadata (for one book and not the bulk edit), and then on Download Metadata, you can also configure the sources where Calibre can download from (the tiny button near "Download Metadata"), and you could even decide what particular metadata take from each source (by clicking on the source and configuring it), for example Authors, Publication Date, Comment, Tags, Series, Cover etc.. You can even create rules for commuting every tag imported, to adjust them better to your library. Sci fi so becomes for example Science Fiction, Contemporary Romance could became two different tags "Romance" and "Contemporary" etc It's pretty cool, saves time and it's very practical.. Once you do that you can click on Yes quite blindfolded, I guess. Last edited by LilaFrabel; 06-20-2020 at 06:57 AM. |
