Hierarchical tags and sorting in tag browser

Whenever I try to sort my categories by number of books, all the subtags flatten themselves. (See screenshot for example.)

Is there a setting or tweak I missed somewhere to turn it hierarchical again?

No. The hierarchy depends on having the tags next to each other and sorted so that a parent is above a child. When you sort by number there is no guarantee that this rule is respected. In fact, it is nearly certain that it is not.

Ah. That makes sense.

Is there a way to set the sorting per-category? The "number of books" sorting would be useful for the other cats.

Again, no. Sorting is done at the database level when the categories are fetched. There is no way to specify that different categories have different sorts.
