Editing E-book (deleting cover images manually)

hello everyone,

Sometimes Calibre inserts duplicate cover images in epub --> mobi conversion. However, If I delete the cvt.jpg and/or ppl.jpg, it doesn't insert duplicate cover image.

I have a confusion over deleting the cover.html and associated 3 cover images. (files mentioned below)

For reference I took a book by Frank L. Baum.

Please, refer these files:

Text:
baum_9781101078167_oeb_cover_r1.html // cover html file

Images:
  • baum_9781101078167_msr_cvi_r1.jpg // main cover file linked in cover.html
  • baum_9781101078167_msr_cvt_r1.jpg
  • baum_9781101078167_msr_ppl_r1.jpg

Is it safe to delete these three images and cover.html.

after deleting, I can manually insert change the cover image. But then there is no cover.html.

If I delete these files, will there be any problem in rendering the mobi/azw3 files in Kindle?

Just use the option under the structure detection section of the conversion dialog to remove the first image during conversion.

Thanks a lot, Kovid. I can't thank you enough. You saved me from a lot of trouble. I was doing all wrong earlier. I never looked under this setting.

everything is fine now.
