Some books (a very short introductions series in my case) have vertical text on margins, like title of the book/chapter. The problem is that calibre doesn't show vertically oriented text, so it ends up being shattered through the main text. Is there a way to configure viewer to show vertically oriented text?

You did not specify how you are creating vertical text. Vertical text works fine on the old Calibre viewer (as well as on my Kindle Paperwhite. I am using a CSS property. Try this:

I'm afraid I am not going to go hunting for a book file, post an actual file demonstrating the issue.

That's an artifact of PDf conversion, not the viewer. See https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/con...-pdf-documents

yes because document viewer is viewing the PDF and calibre converts the PDF to html under the hood to view it, since the calibre viewer is meant for reflowable text, not PDFs.

Calibre viewer is an ebook viewer. PDFs are not really ebooks, they are paper texts in electronic form. Use a PDF viewer for PDFs.

![]() To answer what I think is your question "How do I best view PDFs when using calibre": if viewing on the desktop, tell calibre to use a PDF viewer to open the file. If viewing on a content server client, download the file and view it with a native PDF viewer. |
