How do I 'share'

Hi Peeps, I have edited someone's document and created an e-book in Calibre. I have created EPUB and MOBI versions as well as ZIP. Now I want to share it with the author, but when I put her email address into Connect/Share and send, it fails. What am I doing wrong, please?

Have a directory that you use with your email program.
Export the files from Calibre.
Attach them to emails. Send separate emails for each attachment in case there is a size limit.

That's what I've been showing people for 30 years. MS "Send" in Office was a trap for people, sometimes it worked and sometimes not.

If you use GMail, do not use Outlook as it doesn't work properly with GMail.

Nothing works properly with Gmail. Even if you find the nearly hidden settings marked Beware of the Leopard as Google will periodically block EVERY 3rd party email client, even when you enable the so called "less secure access". They may block just with your IP changing.
Much as I detest Outlook client (all of them), it will work with gmail as well as anything else, most of the time, when you enable the setting in your Google account. You'll get warning emails from Google occasionally. False positives.

i have outlook 2007 working fine with gmail ( on my wife's WIN 10 PC). All I had to do was agree to accept the less secure option. She does not want to have to learn how to use a more modern/better client

Though it may not be "less secure" depending on the email client, that's Google spin. Also if you get a warning from Google it may only be that your IP has changed, not that your password is hacked.

The problem with Outlook and GMail is that when you delete messages, the tags are removed and they don't actually get deleted. So someday, you'll run out of space on GMail.

I switched from Outlook 2016 to Thunderbid because Thunderbird works correctly with GMail. For what I do, Thunderbird is not that different.

I have a Gmail account, but I don't use it very much. I do regularly check if mails come that way. If I am on VPN I get warnings from google that my password might have been revealed. So change of IP might be enough to get a warning.

You must have been using IMAP. I use POP3. IMAP is meant to leave everything on the server. It's good for collaborative email accounts (customer support) or having all the same email on different devices. With one user and one laptop/Desktop (Mac, Windows, Linux) the POP3 is better.
I've been using Thunderbird since late 2003 or early 2004 instead of Eudora. I forget what I used before Eudora. The two main IT companies I worked in always replaced Outlook on customer PCs, unless Outlook in MS Office was required for an on-site Exchange server for meetings.

Thanks for the info about gmail. But I don't understand this reply (above). Can you explain in words of one syllable how to set up a directory, please? But maybe it's automatic? I've already sent the author (attached to emails) all the files that have appeared in My Documents in Word, but she says she can't open them. She is on her own at the moment and is not technology-minded (worse than me!) so has no-one who can see what's going on and advise. How does she get them so she can read them? She wants to upload her book to Amazon kindle.

IMAP vs. Pop3 is not the GMail issue with Outlook. Thunderbird is configured for IMAP with GMail and it's working properly. Besides, having all the email locally and not left on the server is a really bad iea (IMHO).

When attaching eBooks to a GMail email either ZIP or RAR the eBook. Last time I tried sending an ePub with GMail, it failed unless I sent the ePub as RAR or ZIP.

Utter popycock there

But a note for people using the "Use less secure Login"... Google is deprecating password logins starting this summer, and this will no longer work.. You'll have to either upgrade to Outook 2019, *or*, use the Google Outlook Sync Plugin

Or stop using Gmail. If they don't allow password logins how can ANY 3rd party email client work? No, I'm not going to install something from Google so I can use email on their domain. How would Outook 2019 work?
