Calibre Reader on Mac > Shortcuts for Bookmarking

I am using Calibre 4.13 on a Mac (and loving it).

In the Calibre Reader I see a bunch of buttons for managing bookmarks on the right sight: "New", "Remove", "Sort by name", etc. In every button a character is underlined: "N" in "New", "R" in "Remove", etc.

Now I am trying to add bookmarks via shortcuts. Hitting "N" for creating a "New" bookmark won't do the job. I tried every combination on my Mac: "Command + N", "Option + N", "Shift + N", only "N". Nothing works. I am forced to use the mouse key.

Do these keyboard shortcuts not work on a Mac?

In the preferences I have a section dedicated to shortcuts-management. I can see and change all kinds of keyboard shortcuts, but no option for bookmark management.

No, Apple believes keyboard shortcuts are for wimps. They think real men need only a mouse, and that too one with just a single button. Accelerator keys (the underlined letters you see) are not present on macOS, at all. I really should get around to figuring out how to hide them from being displayed at all to prevent confusion.

Would it be possible to add a menu entry in "shortcut settings" for bookmarking?

A little off topic regarding Mac keyboard shortcuts: That is a misconception. On my Mac I can assign a keyboard shortcut to every menu entry and action of any app. I have even remapped my keys to my liking using a tool named "Karabiner Elements" plus another tool named "Keyboard Maestro".

Neither of those tools are from apple. They work despite apple's efforts not because of them.

And you can assign shortcuts and configure them to all actions in calibre as well, just not to buttons. There already is a configurable shortcut for showing hiding the bookmarks panel. You want one for adding a bookmark??

Well, it's not about brushing your ego. I am only interested in keeping `Calibre` alive for the coming years, so maximum support can be achieved by maximum reach I believe

I've been working full time on calibre for over a decade now, so dont worry about sustainability
