Which font is used in menus?
Does anybody know which font kobo uses for menus, ie the default system UI font? Does it have any special adjustments, like font spacing, kerning etc?

Possibly Nickel? (the font, I mean).
And nobody really knows the details, because system fonts are obfuscated/encrypted. |

I think the font(s) used in the Kobo GUI are dependent on which locale you have set. For English locale the default GUI uses 2 of the builtin fonts. Georgia is used wherever the firmware asks for a serif font and 'Avenir Next' when sans-serif is specified.
As for the rest of the OP's question I don't know about kerning and font spacing because I'm not sure how I'd test them, but I am pretty sure ligatures (e.g. 'fi') will be used in the GUI if the Georgia/Avenir fonts actually contain those ligatures. I've updated my own Forma to use Bookerly/Trebuchet throughout the GUI rather than Georgia/Avenir. I can see that the 'fi' ligature is being used when displaying Author 'Gianrico Carofiglio' in both main Book list and Author list. |
