Viewer hangs; calibre-parallell is not responding

When I try to open any ebook on Calibre, the viewer program starts with a blank pop-up screen.
After a few moments the header displays " Not Responding"
Then, when I force the viewer to stop (click on the top-right X) another windows pops up with "calibre-parallel.exe not responding".
I've seen similar messages in this forum from years ago, but I can't find a solution.

My calibreversion is 4.13

any tips please?

what OS? if this is windows it is most likely graphics driver incompatibilities. Try updating your drivers.

I'm using Win10 64b with a Nvidia GeForce RTX2060.
I do have the latest drivers, v445.75 of 03/23/2020

Ok, something's happening now.
I've started my laptop in SAFE mode, started Calibre and opend a book at random.

Now, the viewer says " Starting for the first time " and opens the book, but only the first few pages or at least alle pages with pictures in it.

I don't get any text.

After closing the viewer's window, I'm getting this pop-up message:
Header: Title - E-book viewer: Calibre-parallel.exe
Content: A fail fast exception occured. Exception handlers will not be invoked and the process will be terminated immediately.

I've tried to open 5 other books, same results

Hold on....
Back in normal mode, Now the viewer works perfectly !!
No errors, no issues
