Hello people, well, as the title says, I'm an old vet and this is all rocket science to me.
I bought Alpha and it just doesn't work for me, Calibre is far superior, is my feeling so I guess I'm picky ![]() over the last 40 years, I have amassed a very large book library more over the last twentysomeodds as digital is much easier, prime per example, series of 11 books for $0.99? yeah, I have a lot. So I've been searching over the last 2 weeks and playing with Calibre and my pc running 24 hours a day have it that when I drop books in, it converts them to epub gets rid of the other format and copies it to the library folder. Love the work btw, Kudos, might not be worth much to you but it's sent with love and thanks. Lash at me if required but I've not found what I'm looking for but it must be so basic I'm sure it's been done before. 1. as I said Calibre already copies the new entries to the right folder and I'm happy the way it is as it converts them to epub and gets rid of the other formats. 2. what I would like would be that calibre fetch the cover and metadata on its own and then updates the .epub file with the new data and cover while also renaming the .epub file something like this; Code:
Author - Title.epub Thank you again for a great product. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Calibre Folder Naming is from what was entered (showing in the spreadsheet). https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=119175 Applies As to Metadata: Many years ago, a CNET-TV anchor used the term 'Auto-Incorrect'. IMHO that really applies to downloaded metadata ![]() The Quality Check Plugin is your first tool, to help discover and hammer things into data order. Find (and FIX) all Authors in your DB with the wrong name order (comma or no comma), and so many other data variants that show up from time to time. The Search the Internet Plugin is another tool to help look up other data, to allow you to fill in the blanks (or correct). Nothing is FAST. I spent over a year massaging my metadata after I scanned the books with barcodes into the Add From ISBN part of the ADD button. (I still needed to do all the Pre-ISBN era by hand. Scan Covers for those that did not find a match (to my copy) Vet? Military or Doctor? |

Mike:
See the attached images. That plugin can automatically fix your metadata, and then automatically submit Calibre jobs for other plugins that you may have installed to add more metadata (e.g. Polish Books, Count Pages, etc.). https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=269911 DaltonST |

Thank you, @theducks, yes I had found out and read about the way calibre is designed and the reason the folder structure is the way it is, all good for me because it's nearly the way My library was manually maintained, first, by Authors with a picture of the author in the folder named folder.jpg which displays the picture in explorer (windows 10 x64 btw, I didn't mention it earlier) then the books, each in a folder, [Year_Title] so they are listed chronological, each with a pic folder.jpg using the book cover but the book themselves are named [author_Title.epub].
and it was Navy Now I'm searching for those plugins, they should help greatly. t.y.v.m. Thank you, @DaltonST, I read the link, ty, I'll study the image and figure out how it works as I said, it's rocket science to me but I'm patient. As for the plugin you linked to me, when I try and install it, I get the following error, did I mess up? Quote:

That error is caused by a bad zip file; no idea how your copy got that way. Install via Calibre > Plugins > get new plugins.
Added: I manually downloaded and installed the Job Spy.zip file from the Original Post of its thread, and it works perfectly. DaltonST Last edited by DaltonST; 04-12-2020 at 04:04 PM. |

From the error message, I would suspect that you tried to install from an unzipped copy of the job_spy.zip file, you selected the wrong file or your OS unzipped the file for you.
Basically, there are two ways to install Job Spy. If you downloaded the job_spy.zip file from the linked thread, you would open calibre preference => plugins => Load plugin from file and then browse to the location of job_spy.zip and select it. Click yes on the Installing plugins is a security risk then select the toolbars where Job Spy would be added. The other choice would be Preferences => Get plugins to enhance calibre button, select All in Filter list of plugins and enter job in the Filter by name box. This should show Job Spy which you would then select and install with the same warning and options as above. |

ok, I deleted the old zip file, redownloaded and it worked well, thank you, beyond job-spy, I also installed DeDRM, Kindle Collections, EpubMerge & FanFicFare as they seem to be the most recommended. now, let's get a headache (stretched arms cracking knuckles)
Thank you for pointing me the right way Last edited by BetterRed; 04-12-2020 at 05:23 PM. |

Sadly, Kindle Collections is not likely to be of much use since it requires a jail-broken Kindle Touch or newer.

Moderator Notice
@mike.katina - please don't post large embedded images like the one you had in post #7, they are irritating on small devices (phones, low res netbooks etc). Stick to emojis, they convey the message without irritating old farts like me ![]() If you want to post an image, eg a screenshot etc, upload them to here and they will show as thumbnails. In advanced mode, click the paper clip icon in the top toolbar. There's also a rule on size of embedded images, see rule #9 in Guidelines Thanks BR Last edited by BetterRed; 04-12-2020 at 05:24 PM. |

T.Y. DNSB, didn't know that, I thought it would help clean up the ebooks purchased through amazon in my tab s2, using e-kindle.
Sorry BetterRed about the large picture, wasn't my intention and didn't notice, I simply copy/paste a link off google images, one that was kinda representing me and my attitude and taking the time to do so would convey my appreciation from the help and guidance from the team here. RL is kicking my butt right now with unwanted chores but comes with having horses. I Will resume at this task asap and if permitted, will post more questions here when absolutely necessary because I got stonewalled. Cheers everyone \o/ BB |

Hello Everyone, I've come up to another wall...
Been searching for several hours but did not find any exact trouble I have several thousand reports that have something I need to be removed from the "Series" column. I tried several different approaches using the advance search tool, really too many to list since they didn't work. in the "unmodified" [Series] column, which I use a lot to list chronologically the reports there are a series of characters which I just plainly want to be removed as they are useless, ex as follows; Fall 2011: 10.12.2011 list of required machinery maintenance to be covered Fall 2011: 10.14.2011 Pickup #1, 2, 3, 4 oil changed and greased ... etc etc etc ... no need to put more, so what I need is to just plainly delete, in this specific reference, the characters [Fall 2011: ] so as to have this as a result: 10.12.2011 list of required machinery maintenance to be covered 10.14.2011 Pickup #1, 2, 3, 4 oil changed and greased ... but only in the [Series] column. is this something possible or should I start doing them all 1 by 1? TY all |
