Shift + Left-Mouse Click to select multiple epubs Fails
I wasn't sure where to properly post this, but it's definitely a 'Library Management' issue, so I've posted it right here.
Since I updated Calibre to 4.12.0 a few days ago, I can no longer select multiple epubs for bulk actions, using 'Shift + Left Mouse click. This is a really bad thing and a really big deal. Yikes! And yes, every other program on my Windows 10 PC still works perfectly when using the 'Shift + Left Mouse click' to select multiple lists of text or files. And yes I've tried both Shift keys, and two different mice... no change. It's a singularly Calibre specific issue. Help. Frizzell Last edited by Frizzell; 03-15-2020 at 02:09 PM. It is intermittent here. (W10 Pro)
Really odd thing just happened when it failed: I was still holding the Shift, and tapped the Down Arrow, and that worked. Somehow the shifted mouse click is getting lost, but the anchor remained |

Where are you using shift left click to select multiple EPUBS?
If you mean multiple book lines in the book list, that seems to be working OK here on Windows 10 1909 (up to date as of 1 minute ago). BR Last edited by BetterRed; 03-15-2020 at 07:08 PM. |

Looks like I had to force the 1909 update (updater running on the other system)

I'll be flabbergasted if its Windows 1903 v 1909 - unless Qt is barfing on 'old' Windows versions like it does on some supposedly 'old' video systems.

Nope. same
The action (highlighting) is weird I wonder if this is the Mouse click Bounce issue (when closing tabs in the editor)? Betcha it is. 4 times it works, #5 it failed (you see the selection momentarily) |

Try doing it slowly. I don't use the mouse much, and when I do I have to use it 'slowly' otherwise I'll miss the target. Maybe your left finger is releasing the shift before the right one presses left click. I dunno why people don't use the keyboard for things like this, its precise and IMO much faster. BR |

I'm seeing the same issue erratically. Select the first book, scroll down and shift-left click on the end of the books I'm trying to select. Works a good chunk of the time, the rest of the time I have to repeat the selection 2 or 3 times.
An annoyance. |

IIRC the Bounce problem referenced was a bug in Qt, and their bug fixing abilities are hmmm… infamously tardy. Perhaps Kovid can devise a workaround - again. Workarounds can be problematic - e.g. when the Qt developers finally get around to fixing the bug, or the workaround itself needs to be worked around due to side effects. BR |

I cannot reproduce it and without being able to reproduce it there isn't a hope in hell of my being able to fix it, since as BR points out it would need to be a workaround, as calibre does not manage clicks and selections, Qt does.
Out of curiosity does this happen only in the book list? Does it happen in the cover grid? The editor while selecting text? |
