Content server: Add a button to delete all locally cached books

i see this new feature listed in release notes and have installed 4.12
but I can't find the new button ?

From the home page click browse all downloaded books the button is on the top right

sorry, I am still stuck

I am looking at the main calibre program on my PC ( which has content server started) and at my main books list
should I be looking somewhere different e.g. at something running on a device that is accessing CS as a client ?
maybe I am completely misunderstand the feature. I took it to be something that would clear any cache used by the CS within the main program ( which sometimes leads to issues after edits, where the pre-edited version is cached and served)

Home says choose the calibre library to browse. I only have one, so I choose that...
then a list of books appears but the only top right actions are icons for add, sort, search, more...
and more just as 3 options, none of which is delete...
I even downloaded a book from that page, so that there would be something to delete, but still no button ?
the downloaded book is there in my downloads folder, but the puzzle remains unsolved

This feature is about the books CS have downloaded and cached before reading locally, since the books are presumably on another device.

The option to show downloaded books only appear after you READ one or more books. Try reading a book, and the press the HOME button.

its not at all clear, from the release notes, or from your post, exactly what this new feature is intended to help with

if I want to remove a book downloaded to my tablet, I can do that already by deleting it in the reader app or the downloader app , or with a file explorer.
surely if I have read a book, I will then delete it from the reader and not return to the CS to do that ?

and surely also, the CS can't know if I read some, all, or none of a downloaded book. its a dumb server- all it can know is that it allowed a device to request a file, not what happened to that file afterwards

so is this feature just for people who get books onto a device directly from CS via a browser, and not via an app like calibre companion, which already has its own delete button or via ODPS in moon reader ?

if I want calibre CS to serve the newest version of book i just edited , and not a older version from yesterday, that is still cached somewhere on the library PC then the new feature is not there for that? [That still happens, despite an attempted fix from Kovid. the only way to be 100% sure that CS will serve a just-edited book is to close calibre then restart it, then fetch the book from the CS]

I'm almost certain that the cache is only for books read directly on the browser. If you download a book, then you get the 'complete' file, not a cached version (which is an expanded folder of the file).

The new button makes it easier to clean this cache, allowing you to delete all the books with one click.

Could be that. Maybe someone else will confirm.
If release notes said browser cache it would be clearer. I hoped it referred to the cache in Calibre, not one on separate client defice

yes, this is about the in browser cache. Not the server cache.

Read a book in your browser and then visit the home page.

Open a book. Do not download it. Select Read and read some or all of it. Right click and select Home to get to the Continue reading screen. Click on the Browse all downloaded books button. On the screen that opens, click on the trash can in the upper right hand corner.

ok - i still think its confusing to have release notes that refer to locally downloaded books, but that actually downloading a book via CS main screen does not enable said button
I suggest change release notes to say "locally read" books
