Metadata create rules to transform publisher
To Kovid,
I was wondering if it's possible to add another feature to create rules to transform publisher names. I've noticed that a lot of times when I download metadata, there's so many variants of the same publisher such as: HarperCollins, HarperCollins AU, HarperCollins UK, Harper Voyager, Harper Perrennial, Harper, HarperOne, and etc. Or Tor, Tor.com, Tom Doherty Associates and etc. There's so much clutter and I would want to consolidate all variants/imprints into one publisher whenever choose to download/update the metadata. Thank you. Last edited by moredrowsy; 02-29-2020 at 02:11 PM. |

Moved OUT of development. That is for code Developer, not requests.
Not a bad idea. But... (you knew that was coming ![]() Downloaded Metadata can be even more wrong ![]() In most cases, the metadata will follow the ISBN. It is when there is no ISBN (or it was wrong) that Calibre download guesses. My personal preference is to put the IMPRINT into {Publisher} Harper Voyager, Baen Fantasy, Baen SF, Baen Books (Baen Publishing Enterprises -> Baen Books. a perfect safe transform ![]() |

I'd use the Manage Publishers list (click Configure at bottom of Tag Browser) to 'normalise' the names, use F2 to edit the name cells - e.g. I'd change all those "HC" variants to "Harper Collins" etc.
Best time to make metadata 'right' is at the time of adding books. BR |

"from-to" Publisher rules
If you can keep a spreadsheet of the "from-to" Publisher rules, then there is a tool that you can use to quickly change any "from" to the specified "to".
Job Spy has a tool named "Import CSV to Update Metadata". https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...42118#poststop See the attached image. Simply create a spreadsheet (CSV) column named "Old Publisher", and a column named "New Publisher", and copy/past your rules into your spreadsheet. Save-As a CSV File, and import that into the above named JS Tool. "Match" on "Old Publisher", and update Publisher from "New Publisher". Run as often as needed. DaltonST |

It;s certainly possible, but not something I am interested in personally. Patches are welcome.
