Lightbulb Fixed: smtp issues with gmx, gmail, yahoo (send to kindle)

Hi, I just discovered/fixed a few things for myself, tough I should share them here. It would be nice to put in wiki or something.

GMX
- only works for a few countries (US and UK)?

GMAIL
Code:
  hostname: imap.gmail.com
  username: yourName@gmail.com
  password: yourPassword
  encryption: TLS
  port: 587

YAHOO
Code:
  hostname: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  username: yourName@yahoo.com
  password: see bellow
  encryption: TLS
  port: 587

I dont know why you say gmx works only from the us/uk and the gmail issue is already documented in the FAQ. https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq...-using-calibre

I couldn't create an account in GMX, so I googled about it. A lot of people, including one guy from Germany who used a VPN to make it work, said they had the same problem.

Thanks for the link, it indeed gives a clue, still I believe my comment is more helpful, as I'm used to use port 465 and I had to use 587 to make it work. The SMTP address also changed, it used to be `smtp.googlemail.com`.

I would also like to add the send limits:

GMX: 50MB
Yahoo: 20MB
Goolgle: 25MB

Yeah, I don't know whats blocking it, there is no way to tell which countries are affected, if that is indeed the reason.

When I try to register I get 'A technical error has occurred'. When entering the site, I get the attached errors.

When clicking the create email button, the console shows this:

POST https://onereg-account.gmx.com/email-registration 403

I forgot to try this from home, I will try tonight.

Looking at the error messages in your image, I suspect the important words are "err_blocked_by_client". Not to mention the cross-origin resource issue. Does your AV or an add-on to your browser include a web blocker component?

Edit: For what it's worth, GMX also works from Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Japan (looking the location for various people who seem to be happily using GMX for send to kindle email).

Or maybe the OPs behind a corporate firewall:

GMX works for me in Australia, and it's worked for me in Singapore. Its a subsidiary of United Internet - a major German ISP with tentacles all over. They had some problems a few years ago; over a period of a few months some of their subsidiary sites (GMX, 1-on-1 etc) kept disappearing from some major DNS servers. But I haven't seen that for at least 5 years.

When searching for 'problems' I always filter by date/time-since --- the definition of relevance doesn't seem to take 'when' into account.

Entirely possible. Especially, if the firewall is doing SSL decryption which breaks quite a few sites accidentally--I don't even want to think about the sites that are designed not to work with what is effectively a man in the middle attack.

I've noted some issues with GMX over the years but as you say, those were a few years back. Over all for the little I've used their service, it's worked reliably.

Tried at home, using clean profile of chrome and edge, which I never use. Same thing, same errors :-(

There is a youtube video of a brazilian explaining how to use a VPN to create a GMX account. Many people thanking him. Maybe its my country plus a few.

Calibre SMTP through Yahoo now WORKS again - THANK YOU!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I thought Yahoo just tightened security ( read: PROFITS ) and would NOT allow SMTP through any non-Yahoo service, but I tried this and it works in Calibre ( v4.23 for Windows 7 64 ).

Note, even though Yahoo claims we only need to use the generated password once, I found I needed to use it all the time, instead of my regular password, weird.

How did you find this?

You are way MORE than a "Junior" member here in my eyes.

One of the greatest things about Calibre are the peeps, like you!

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
