Kobo Wifi (N647) Solution for cracked D-Pad?

Hi everyone - My first post on this forum.

I dragged my Kobo out of the cupboard the other day and marvelled that it still charged up. Though it looks like it doesnt last too long. I guess not surprising for something that is around 9 years old (or so).
I have seen it doesnt look too hard or expensive to replace a battery -so may give that a go.

It is still a joy to use, but the silicon D-Pad has a bit of a crack in it and that will get worse.

Is there a good solution to a the D-Pad problem - Can't see anything like a replacement solution online. What have others done?

Any suggestions or advice?

The rubber / silicon would eventually crack at various places and come away. What I did for my Kobo Wifi was that I pasted a layer of transparent tape to keep the pieces in place. Later, since they are used by my kids too, it crumbled to small dust like pieces within the tape.
I then took apart the Kobo (number of videos available on how to do that) and put a drop of glue using glue-gun on each of the navigation buttons on the IC board; and re-assembled the reader back again. Its working fine for now.
But I think I'll need to do something similar for the power button too since its begun cracking.

To be honest, I think it's time to get a new Kobo.

Any solutions to reconfigure DPad options for Kobo N647

As mentioned earlier the glue gun + tape trick worked okay for a long time.
However the 'next page' button on the DPad stopped working.
Anyone's got any suggestions on how we can reconfigure any of the other buttons on the N647 for turning to next page?

Mine stop working some time ago. . for a while I used it as a picture viewer, but now it's back in the drawer somewhere long forgotten.

Just get a new Kobo. It's already so old. No device can last forever.
