PW3 5.12.2 Serial JB failed

Hi,
I have a manga version of PW3,and it has OTA updated to 5.12.2. I found the jailbreak is gone,so I tried to serial jailbreak it again. However,when I entered diags mode and exited to the login promt, I found the password calculated from serial number is wrong. The password I used is same as last time I serial JB it, and I ve tried many times. So I went back to the diags menu to see if USBnet works,but I found I can't enable USBnet mode.When I click 'enable USBnet',the menu flashed and my computer couldn't found that net adapter that supposed to appear.I am very confused now.Does this mean I have to do a factory reset or there is no chance to JB my device again?

Unfortunately I didn't install the latest hotfix before this update

I hadn't either so you might give it a try. The jb may still exist on your kindle.

edit: After that update, I wasn't able to use ;log mrpi or install the hotfix via UYK. I fiddled with it for days convinced the jb was gone. Then after restoring the ;log command with emergency.sh, I was able to reinstall all my packages and was back in business.

Sorry to hear that.

I may have had a hotfix version newer than yours--I didn't have the latest though. I even updated to 5.12.3 before I restored mine. I've since downgraded to 5.10.3...

I just completed the serial jailbreak on my PW3 running 5.12.3, but I don't see KUAL. The only book on my device is "Kindle Feedback." Did you do anything special after running jb.sh to get KUAL working?
I followed "Serial Jailbreaking your fw >= 5.6.x Kindle for Dummies" and initially tried installing KUAL with KUAL-KDK-2.0.azw. Then I saw in the thread at "KUAL: Kindle Unified Application Launcher (v2.7)" that we now need to use Update_KUALBooklet_v*_install.bin instead and rely on MRInstaller (I copied the two folders as in the instructions). Searching for ;log mrpi doesn't work either.

Try update_KUALBooklet_hotfix_v2.7.22_install.bin from the KUAL-v2.7.22-g699ae4a-20191115.tar.xz archive in the snapshots thread:

Drop that in the root of the USB storage and then:
Menu > Settings > Menu > Update your Kindle

Not sure if that will install on 5.12.3.

Failing that:

Download the zip from Restore ;log command for 5.12.* firmware
Copy emergency.sh to your kindle
Connect to your Kindle through the serial port and execute emergency.sh
Restart your Kindle

;log mrpi should function now.

update_KUALBooklet_hotfix_v2.7.22_install.bin was the fix I needed.

Good news! Try installing the Jailbreak Hotfix:

Download JailBreak-1.16.N-FW-5.x-hotfix.zip from snapshots.
Extract the hotfix to the usb root
Install with Update Your Kindle.

If that doesn't work:

Download kindle-jailbreak-1.16.N-r16683.tar.xz from the snapshots thread
Place Update_jailbreak_bridge_1.16.N_install.bin in MRPackages
Launch KUAL > Helper > Install MR Packages

Ok that seems to have installed successfully with Update Your Kindle. All of the books have disappeared though since I did the jb.sh thing. They're still in the documents folder on the device, but "Your Library" now only shows "KUAL" and "Kindle feedback" Any idea how to get the books to display again? I'm afraid to leave airplane mode and plan to leave it on indefinitely.

Database issues perhaps? Do you still have your serial connection? If so, enter these commands:

rm -f /var/local/cc.db
rm -f /var/local/dcm.db

Restart your Kindle. That will erase any collections, bookmarks, progress, etc.

If you don't have your serial connection still, you can install kterm:
https://www.fabiszewski.net/kindle-terminal/

Download kterm 2.5, extract to your extensions folder and launch via KUAL. Then enter the above commands and restart.

This fixed the issue, and I'm up and running!
Moving forwards, do I need to keep airplane mode on? If so, I believe can just add books by buying them on laptop then downloading and copying via USB to the device. Thank you for your help and patience

The firmware you are running is quite aggressive about attempting to "phone home" and update to the latest version. Given this I would suggest either keep it in airplane mode or downgrading to a more benign level.
