Will 3rd party ebooks on kobo be synced with cloud?
I'm considering an ereader (don't want Amazon) and looking at the kobo. I was wondering that if I added my 3rd party owned books (drm free) would it be available on kobo desktop app and save my location as well?

The only syncing of non-purchased books on a Kobo is with Dropbox. And that is only available on the Forma.

Kindles are the best for syncing 3rd party content over various apps and devices, including the reading position. (I'm not sure if it's even possible on any other ereader). So if that's an important feature for you, why not consider a Kindle? You don't have to buy from Amazon. All the books on my Kindles are sideloaded.

I'm just privacy conscious right now, and wary of Amazon stuff. BUT I guess if it does offer sync across devices natively that's nice. Might just end up going with an iPad anyways though

Regardless of platform, security and privacy are an issue. I think Apple does better than all others, but isn’t perfect. The bottom line is if you don’t live in a cave and buy everything for cash, privacy on the ‘net is an allusion.

I've attached three images. One shows the Upload option, the second shows the book information (showing that the book is on the Device and the Cloud) and the same books on my Tolino Android app (on a phone). You can see on the app that the one book hasn't been downloaded to the phone, hence the Cloud with the Down Arrow. Last edited by rcentros; 12-24-2019 at 07:07 PM. |

Privacy and entitlement are two very fashionable words nowadays. They're so popular that whenever I see them, I want to puke. Just from overdose.
What seems the height of absurdity to me is the wish to maintain one's privacy at all costs and to have one's reading material synced automatically over the internet at the same time. How can you have both? They're mutually exclusive. |

I get your point on that. I'm just tired of the argument that "you must be doing something wrong if you want privacy." No, I just feel it's my right to keep others out of my business. As far as signing up for Amazon or Kobo and giving up certain rights, I see both sides of that argument. I see no problem with "opting out" but (in this case) what they're monitoring is no big deal to me (personally). I don't feel the same about the Amazon Echo or the Google counterpart. I simply don't want these in my house.
