Kobo with RBdigital - compatibility?

my Uk library has switched from using overdrive to RBdigital. It switched in august but as I am only an occasional user, i only found out yesterday that my libby app does not work and that overdrive search says there aner no libraries near to where I live

info on compatibility is hard to find, the library website has only this:
"Which eReaders are compatible with the new service?
RB Digital’s eBook service is compatible with a number of different eReaders including Kindle Fire (not Kindle). If you are having difficulty you may need to change your settings within Adobe Digital Editions and check that it is not still connected to Overdrive.
We are aware that some users are experiencing difficulties using their Kobo devices and RBDigital are currently looking into this.
I was considering buying a new kobo, partly for the direct library integration - should I just forget that and assume it will not be available ?

FYI
1. the RBdigital Amazon Fire tablet app is a disaster, I tracked it down in the amazon app store , installed it to my new 2019 Fire HD 10 and it crashes and closes itself whenever I try to use it - so I am not hopeful of any workable solution for kobo readers.
but I will appreciate any links to more/better information

2. I was able to borrow an epub ebook after some faffing around re registering... using PC and ADE2.0

3. the RDdigital reader app works on my Huawei M5 tablet - but the actual reader bit is horribly primitive compared to libby. Text on smallest setting is way too large on 10 inch and customisation features are pretty much non existent.

4. the RBdigital app reviews in google store are awful - the reading experience is allegedly very glitchy

I wish my library had not changed supplier. I have tried googling to see if it possible to pay to join a UK library in another county that still uses overdrive but it seems that no UK library offers that, the only workaround is to find a friend in a suitable location who is willing to share their library card.

If you can download the book using ADE, then you can use ADE to put it on a Kobo ereader. You will need to use the same Adobe account to authorize ADE and the device.

ok thanks - I was unsure if the new kobo range retained the ability to authorise the kobo device for ADE, or if it had been replaced with newer do it directly options

so I think ( not having a kobo to hand) i would need to usb connect kobo to PC, open ADE v2 ( or whatever the preferred version is) then look for an option to clone the PC authorisation onto the device. I know that the PC is authorised Ok as the test booro of a book worked, and I may even have a separate record of the actual ADE ID login and password somewhere

I assume the new simple browse + checkout is designed to work only with Ratuken/Overdrive, not with other library software options like RBdigital?

Having said that it was surprisingly easy to get the calibre "Overdrive" plug in to still work, I just had to change the library URL that I had configured in there

Kobo still supports ADE. The nuisance is that don't allow downloading directly from libraries or stores that use it.

That's about it.

The OD support is only in some countries (basically the English speaking and Scandanavian) and the libraries that use OD that signed up.

Stumped, could you please post if you can get ADE 2.0, Overdrive, and RBdigital to all use the same Adobe ID? I couldn't get it to work, and went with ADE 4.X

well as a partial answer = yes.
i have ADE v2.0.1.78765 on this PC
authorized a very long time ago...
So i found the new URL for my library to use RBdigital and I registered with RB digital using an email and password, and gave it my old( from overdrive days) library card ID

( I might actually have registered from a tablet last night when I was trying and failing to get the RB app to work, and trying and failing to renew my library card online. The main library site says it expired in 2015! but it was working fine with overdrive this summer! - I've not seen nor needed the actual physical card for years, I have the number and PIN saved in a txt file on PC )

then I borrowed a book, using this PC, which downloaded in the usual way . an ACSM file downloaded, opened with ADE, book appeared and was readable in ADE
i cant test with a kobo device though as my son has mine & I have not gotten around to buying a new one yet

i did also have another go at installing the android app - to my HUAwei and that worked this time around. i logged in with email and password and there was the book that I'd PREVIOUSLY checked out on the PC - on the checked out screen!. it was also readable there. i did not bother to test if reading position syncs back to anything, the reader app on android is awful.

Hope that helps a little
AFAIK RBdigital has not asked, does not know, does not need to know my Adobe ID, or my ADE version. it uses a different process to send a book to the android app, and for checkout via PC my PC handles the acsm decrypt stuff, locally
#FYI I can still log into overdrive/ library and th e app say I have a library card.- but when I get to checkout a book it then says whats your library, and the only possible answer seems to be "I'm not sure". Then it puts up a google map and says pick one but there are no libraries in a 30 mile radius of where i live ( that's where I though aha, maybe my library has parted company with overdrive ! )
i also confirmed that by searching for my library at overdrive, I tried postcode, town, nearest city... all came up no libraries found..
the library never told me about the change either- well maybe they put up a sign in the actual library, but I stopped going there on principle when they fired almost all the staff and put in self service machines for returns, for checkouts, for searches, and a gizmo to open the door. Basically its a walk-in ATM nowadays

Ps. what is rather crap is that all ebook covers are missing here
https://gloucestershire.rbdigitalglobal.com/
don't think it's me as I tried with adblocker on and off
I can see magazine covers only
same with the android app, no ebook cover thumbnails - same generic placeholder on every book.
& the audiobooks have been moved to something called borrowbox so lending is now split across 2 sirtes
