Magazines in Calibre

Hey everyone,
I'm having a bit of trouble reading magazines in Calibre. I'm not trolling but please hear me out. I have a subscription for a magazine through B&N but the Nook app on my PC drives me crazy. The navigation is clunky and the responsiveness of the app is awful. So, enter Calibre.

When I download the magazines to my computer, I can find them easily enough to add to my Calibre library. When Calibre opens the magazines, they are opened in "Article View" which is just a standard epub format that just displays text and some images. The Nook app allows me to open the magazines in "Page View" which is how the magazine should be viewed. It has full color images which is nice and a more traditional magazine layout.

The issue is that Page View is literally jpg images that the Nook app displays. Normally I wouldn't have an issue with just using the Nook app but like I said clunky and not very responsive. What I'm hoping to find is a solution to allow Calibre to display the magazine in Page View, find another alternative, or just suck it up and read through the Nook app.

Any thoughts?
Shawn

If the Page View is an actual ebook that simply contains page images you shouldbe able to view it fine in calibre, if not, then you are out of luck. Look into the Fetch News feature in calibre, although that is mostly geared towards text publications not glossies.

If the magazine its just JPG files then you could consider to make it a CBZ file.
A CBZ is a folder of ordered JPEG files zipped but with the zip archive extension changed from ZIP to CBZ (same goes with winrar to CBR)

Then you can read it as a CBZ (or CBR player): add it to Calibre or read with CDisplayEx https://www.cdisplayex.com/

Note: In Calibre / Preferences / Behaviour / you can change the default reader for each type)

@Wahooka - What Format are the magazines? In calibre Press 'I' and you'll see the Format.

The digital version of most glossy magazines is PDF.

Maybe B&N wrap the PDF in a proprietary format.
