Hi just a quick intro.

My name is Bob, I'm a retired IT-type. Although it says I'm "retired" I've found that in the past 5 years I have spent more time working on IT problems than ever before in my IT career. Officially I'm retired to Queensland in Australia's northern region.

I recently spent 2.5 years travelling solo around the Australia in a large RV towed by a large utility (that's our description for a small truck). During this period Calibre allowed me to continue reading. Libraries are rarely available in the Outback regions of Australia.

I use calibre on several Mac Book computers I have. Which brings me to why am I writing now.

Well extensive experience that does not make you impervious to IT catastrophes. In fact sometimes I think it makes it worse. Anyway a couple of weeks ago I had a major disaster. it was almost a week before I could see that I was making real progress -- there was light at the end of the tunnel.

Last week it was beginning to look like I was winning. That's when confidence encourages you to skip a step or two.

It seems like when I was moving data (in this case calibre libraries) between external hard drives and different computers -- that I must have breached one of calibre's rules. This morning I went to open a book I have used from one of my calibre libraries. I was horrified to discover I had unleashed a horde of problems (including DRM breaches for books I had purchased years ago). Calibre would not touch these files.

Normally I take these things in my stride and just knuckle down to solving the difficulty. So I'll say Hi and move onto the serious job of recovery.

Cheers
Bob Cornwall
