On loan from Scotland Yard to the Sydney, NSW, CIB, Inspector Saul Murmer stumbles into a murder scene which rapidly develops many complications, The victim was both stabbed and shot, probably simultaneously; a young woman Murmer saw leaving the building later proves a perfect alibi miles away, with many witnesses. And other likely suspects also have alibis....

The climax is a courtroom scene, with defence counsel dismantling the prosecution's case and exposing the true killer.
