VIP Annual Free Book
Every year when I renew my VIP membership, Kobo sends me a code and lists of books that qualify as free gift. Never is there one in the list I want. They are all from genres I never read. If Kobo can send me recommendations based on books I've purchased why cant' they give me a list of books that match my reading preferences for my free gift. This has pissed me off since year 1 of my membership. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Because they’re limited by what the publishers allow. So the pool of books you see is likely to be the entire pool of books which they’ve gotten approval for for this promo.

Both of these posts are true.
It’s frustrating. The selection is limited, and I question the value of VIP points since no books I buy ever allow them to be applied, but Kobo is trying. The publishers seem to have their hands tied. What *really* sets me off is how much more expensive Kobo books are compared to Kindle prices. I recently bought a five book series for $23 on Kindle that was selling for $35 on Kobo. No amount of pleading could get customer support to drop the price or offer me a discount code. Instead, they wanted me to buy it from them, request a price match, and be happy with a $12 credit. 🤷🏻*♂️ I bought it on Amazon and side-loaded the stripped DRM version onto my daughter’s Kobo. Experiences like that make me wonder sometimes if maybe it’s not entirely the publishers at fault. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Kobo probably can't afford to give out the kind of sales that Amazon does, and I'm not sure there's much that can be done about that unless laws change in the US (which is where I assume you're based). In my country, book prices and sales must be set by the publisher and they're the same everywhere, including the Kindle Daily Deals, so we don't have this issue.
