Max 3: Tips & Tricks
Hello Everyone,
I thought I would make a thread where we can all share tips and tricks we found for our Max 3. As you might have noticed, this device runs more of a psuedo-Android 9 rather than real Android 9. As a result, there are a lot of little quirks where things dont work as they should. But we're smart and we can overcome these things! ![]() This is a truely incredible device hardware wise with an e-ink display that is nice and easy on the eyes as well as Wacom EMR! The built in PDF functionality I think is amazing and suprisingly fast. Even more suprsising is the accuracy of TTY of the PDFs, I am really impressed with that. Quick translations with highlighting and other tools really make this device a productivity powerhouse, if it weren't for some if the quirks. Lets help the Max 3 see its real potential! The workarounds I will share will require root, but non-root solutions are welcome! |

OTG + Charging at the same time:
Plug in the hub and power supply into Max3 without anything else attached and then reboot, it will be charging upon boot. Then if you insert the keyboard and mouse, it still wont work, only still charging... but if you are rooted you can "echo '1' > /sys/class/power_supply/usb/usb_otg" Apps not autostarting at boot: Use Magisk and install App Systemizer. Install the app into priv-app No split-screen functionality: Warning-Somewhat dangerous. Install quickswitch Magisk module and set it to use a third party recents app launcher such as Lawnchair, but keep onyx's default ContextBrowser Launcher. Google Play on this device sucks: Remove all google apps using Terminal Debloat Magisk Module, then install microg magisk module and the Aurora Store app |

I thought we couldn't use Magisk because we couldn't access the bootloader. Is Max 3 different or is my understanding wrong? I have Max 2 & Note Pro, not Max 3.

Max 3 has an unlocked bootloader. It would be possible on those devices too if they have unlocked bootloader, but youd have to find that out. I have no idea if they do, I dont own or follow those devices.

Hi. Maybe someone can explain how to:
1. set "Fullscreen" on app (I can't find such in App optimization or NaviDot); 2. enable system's Download Manager (when I try download from browser i got pop up message "Starting download ..." and nothing happening) 3. enable full Android's settings. Max 3, 2.2.2. |

I found how set fullscreen/immersive mode on app trough adb:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full="package name". In my case it is: adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=mobi.goldendict.android |

What to remove with terminal debloat
Do you have a list of services you removed with terminal, would save me some time in getting rid of all the garbage on the device

Saving MS DOCX scribbles
Hi, I bought the Boox Max 3 (intead of Remarkable) because it opens docx (MS Word) files. I can also nicely scribble on the text. But how do I save the scribbles with the text in a format that I can then send to someone else (e.g. pdf or png)? I can now only see the scribbles in my Boox Max.
Thanks Chris |
