[Kobo Glo] Errno 13 when Calibre is detecting my device

Hi,

Since very recently, I have this error popping when I connect my Kobo Glo and open Calibre (version 3.46.0) :

Code:
Failed to access files in the main memory of your device. You should contact the device manufacturer for support. Common fixes are: try a different USB cable/USB port on your computer. If you device has a "Reset to factory defaults" type of setting somewhere, use it. Underlying error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: 'E:\\driveinfo.calibre'

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 89, in run
  File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\device.py", line 472, in _get_device_information
  File "site-packages\calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 1498, in get_device_information
  File "site-packages\calibre\devices\usbms\driver.py", line 161, in get_device_information
I tried hard reset several times, and each time I can reproduce these steps :
-I can sync my ebooks with Adobe Digital Editions normally.
-But as soon as I connect the Kobo to Calibre, I get the above mentioned error message.
-After that, if I deconnect and reconnect the Kobo, Windows 10 tells me : "This drive has a problem, click to analyse and repair it". If I do repair, Windows does not show error message anymore... as long as I no not open Calibre.

Moreover, when I open the reader drive in explorer, I notice that all the folders appears as shortcuts, with for instance the target "C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c start swf.wsf&start explorer Banks," "Iain" "M_&exit"

Is it normal behaviour ?

Thanks for your help

There is something going wrong access the file "driveinfo.calibre" which calibre creates in the root of the visible partition on the device. See if you can delete the file before opening calibre.

If that doesn't help, I would do a factory reset of the device and see if that solves it. If you want, you can copy all the files from the visible partition before doing the factory reset. Then restore them afterwards. But, test everything is OK first.

Hi, thanks for you answer, but as I said, "I tried hard reset several times". It had no effect.

I did hesitate to manually format the drive, but I did not dare, since I'm not sure the device will be able to launch after that.

The problem is that I don't know what you mean by "hard reset". Some people think it is pressing the pin-hole reset button. If that is what you mean, all it really does is restart the device. If by "hard reset" you mean a "factory reset" using either the option in the Device information page of the settings or using the buttons, then that is what I meant.

Formatting the visible partition when the device is connected to Windows is safe. It will wipe the partition, format it for FAT32 and when you disconnect, the device will detect nothing is there and take you through the setup steps. But, if you have done a factory reset, the partition will have been formatted as part of that. If that is the case and you are seeing this problem, it could be that the internal SD card is failing. Replacing it and restoring an image to the card will probably solve the problem.
