Edit e-Book Blank Window

I followed the Editing e-books section in the manual and your excellent video.

But, if I right-click an epub and select Edit Book, I end up with a blank window and not a list of files and the other features described. Viewing the epub and other functions in calibre 3.46 continue to work great.

Do I need to change some settings or re-install something?

You need to double-click on one of the html / xhtml files on the left in order to open it for editing. If you don't see the list of files on the left go to the View menu at the top and select File Browser.

Thanks for the quick reply @lumpynose.

No panel of html / xhtml files on the left in the window. It's completely empty.

And, no file browser choice in the menubar's View menu.

I would suggest clicking View and enabling a few items -- the file browser as a minimum.

I've attached an image from calibre's editor open in Mojave 10.14.6.

Interesting. Open a message to edit and it saves as a whole new message.

So, I'd suggest attaching your images using the attach files option -- click on the Manage Attachments button (found below the message entry box)

Bingo! Thanks @DNSB from the dummie here.

A picture is worth a 1000 words. I've never like mixing menubar icon stuff with conventional macOS menus especially on big and multiple screens, and missed the now-obvious Edit Book > View menu.

Now works as expected and better than Sigil.

Thanks again,
--Don

Thanks for the kind words. Though I would disagree that calibre's editor is better than Sigil. I use both and each has some features that I wish the other had.

(And I don't want either to change that or try to be more like the other. I usually start with Sigil, then switch to Calibre to play with images and debug. Note: I am doing 'personal' tweaks, not production. YMMV)

I usually start by using some calibre-editor tools, switch to Sigil for code editing, back to calibre for final checks, and back to Sigil for final clean up.

@dlfuller - I can't see any of the screenshots you posted, suggest you use the MR attachment feature - then everything is at the one location. This is what I see

The links don't include the image filename though if you open the link, the image shows up. I suspect the IMG tool is expecting the image file filename in the URL.

click for Google Drive image
