Unhappy Calibre on Chromebook

Hello,

I am the owner of a chromebook recently (due to the loss of my PC). But here's my problem.
I would like to be able to install the Calibre program in order to manage my beautiful little digital library. Only when I start the procedure, the installation refuses to start. Am I to understand that it is impossible to install it on this type of laptop?

Thank you for your answers

There is no native to ChromeOS version of calibre. Given calibre's love for getting down and dirty with the hardware, this makes sense.

If you are into a bit of pain, you can try enabling Linux on your Chromebook (Chrome OS 69 or higher) and install the Linux flavour of calibre. There have been a couple of threads on doing this and the issues that have been run into. See the calibre download page for Linux for the command line(s) and dependencies needed to install calibre.

Not sure if this is a partial hijack of the thread or directly related to the OP. Where does the android app, 'Calibre Companion' come into this? Will that let me manipulate a Calibre Library exported to a USB Flash Drive, using my Chromebook?

Thanks,

John

Short & long answers are No. See "[Android, iOS] What is Calibre Companion?" in the Calibre Companion forum.

Thank you BR. Of course there's a forum for Calibre Companion and it did not even occur to me to look for it! Guess we'll have to kick back and wait for the Chrome OS version . . . or load Calibre through the Linux Partition.

I moved from a dying windows laptop to a chromebook. I thin what I am wanting does not exist.

I want something where I can manage my library like I used to and then plug in my kindle to move the files I want to it.
I am starting to reliaze I may just have to use my husbands computer to do this. SIGH.
