Can't convert to LRF

I have some file that I can't convert to lrf using Calibre no matter what I do. It is in PDF and I even tried converting it to lrf by first converting it into epub, docx, txt, but still when I convert it to lrf I can't open it with calibre ebook reader and epubor.

This is the error message I get when I open it with calibre ebook reader

Quote:

Why are you converting it to LRF? And the first thing you should do is update calibre to the latest release.

What, you can't read my profile info on the left side and see what reader I use?

But I solved it. I converted it to .txt file and then with original Sony software converted it to lrf.

Give him a break for missing that. He sees ALL the Calibre posts, plus the Bug Reports, every day. AND he is working on a new Calibre version.

I am surprised that many of these old models still function well enough for common usage I wore out the buttons and batteries on 2 EzReaders, and the Vizplex screens had screen visual blemishes (looked like a crater without screen surface roughness). I've replaced the battery on my K4nt. Sony built some fine gear (not just limited to e-Readers).

Didn't the PRS-500 have a factory firmware update that supported epub?

Well, since you asked (and not very nicely IMO) - maybe not. When I read this forum (mobile-friendly version) via my smartphone, none of the profile info is visible.

IIRC you had to mail the device in to Sony so they could apply the update.

The only way I can see some of the profile info using Tapatalk is to select the user name, then I see the profile data on the next screen.

Sent from my moto g(7) power using Tapatalk

As mentioned in my post: factory firmware update. So you recall correctly.

Yeah I never got that email to send it and get it fixed so that it loads .epub. But is there a way I could upgrade it so that it reads .epub?

I think the FACTORY thing, means the (board mounted) ROM needs to be replaced. This is not the more recent: EEPROM that more recent devices use, that allows updates.
1) you need the part
2)you need someone that CAN replace it (This needs very special tools)

I don't think you could get it upgraded and if you did, it would not work well. Most ePub these days use high-resolution graphics (at least for the cover) and the 500 would have a fit trying to open that. It's rather slow and doesn't have the capability. My suggestion is to buy a Reader that handles ePub well. I would recommend a Kobo. There are a number of different models to choose from. All will have a much nicer screen with higher resolution and a front light. Plus, they'll be faster and lighter to hold.

I see some of you are consulting me to buy new e-reader. And I see that it is common for e-readers today to have wifi, but how good are they in connecting to the net and for displaying those archived magazines?

For instance could I read this on new e-reader? I mean how good/ readable would it look like?

I've attached a screenshot of that page open on a Clara HD. Personally, only desperation would have me using an eInk screen with a web browser. As for connecting to WiFI? My Kobo ereader collection has not had many issues connecting to my WiFi at home and at work where I control the system. I've had a couple of issues with hotspot WiFi but the later firmware has corrected most of those issues.

Ok thank you very much for the info, David.

I was also looking reviews on kindle and it seems that below kindle 4 is not that much worth buying, but when I look at stores they don't give number 1, 2, 3 or 4 but Kindle "Paperwhite 2018 SP" so is that like equivalent to 4 or lower or upper? Or Kindle 2019 SP? Or Kindle Oasis, 7"?
