Hi guys. After uninstalling a few problematic MSI software utilities, I now find I cannot install Calibre -as it's extension is .msi (go figure).
Any help please in getting Calibre to install. Regards |

MSI IS the installer package, that Microsoft Installer Module uses to add programs to Windows.
If a MSI (the Windows half), Windows won't RUN on a windows system, your Windows system is damaged (virus or Malware). |

@saiyuki - try doing a system file check - sfc /scannow. I have known it to fix the Trusted Installer in the past.
You could also try the portable version of calibre, its self contained. BR |

Hi guys. Scans showed no Virii, malware, or otherwise. Scannnow was also clean. The problem was/is the MSI software that had a devil of a time trying to uninstall. Lesson learned I think
![]() The Portable version of Calibre however works perfectly. Many thanks for your replies. Regards |

You have a more serious problem than installing Calibre. If your system isn't recognising MSI files, Windows updates will fail to install. This really is something that you need to get sorted out.

if you are lucky the only damage done is that you set .msi files to open with something strange. changing that back to default will sort it
otherwise, its probably best to back up important data then have windows reset the PC ( i.e. have tell it to do a fresh install) |

). If the default application is not Windows Installer, click on the app displayed and select Windows Installer from the dropdown list. I've had similar issues when removing a program did not remove/restore the file association. You can also use the Reset to Microsoft recommended defaults but that's using a shotgun to swat a gnat. See attached image for what it look like on my system. Last edited by DNSB; 07-03-2019 at 02:34 AM. |
