Remove Calibre tags from my Kobo, using Calibre?

Hey all,

I have my Kobo set to make tags in Calibre into collections on the device. It works beautifully.

But I've noticed in Calibre I'll see something like 'Action & Adventure' and 'Action and Adventure' which makes two different collections on the Kobo.

I've updated the tags in Calibre, removing esoteric ones I don't care about like Adoption. But they remain on the Kobo. I've tried using 'update cached metadata on device', but when I disconnect the Aura, they are still there.

Is there a way to resend the metadata to remove the now deleted tags short of removing books from the device?

What are your preferences on Send to device. From memory, Manual never deletes collections. I think you might need to switch to one of the other two options.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check when I get home. Where in Calibre do I check that? In the Kobo Extended driver? I've had everything set for so long, I don't remember.

It's in Calibre's Preferences - Send to device. Dunno if Kobo Extended Driver overrides this behavior though.

There are two things to check.

In the configuration for whichever driver you use, there is an option to delete empty collections. That needs to be set.

On the "Sending books to devices" page of the calibre preferences, I recommend setting "Metadata management" to automatic. This will do collection management each time you connect the device. With "Only on send", the collections are only changed when you send a new book. The manual option should mean it won't delete collections.
