Missing covers (not sideloaded)

I got the brand new Paperwhite and while some books are loading with covers, many are not. I've read from doing some browsing that it can take up to a couple of days for the covers to 'populate' and that it's best to keep it constantly on wifi for that reason.

I'm wondering if anyone can confirm this? I've seen similar information here on MobileRead, but it's all to do with older versions of the machine.

On that note - this is actually the second new Paperwhite I've had. The first one is about to get shipped back to Amazon Returns because it became unusable, despite reboots and even resetting: randomly selecting words, not responding to touch, and so forth.

I'm hoping the early models of the new Paperwhite don't all turn out to be lemons, and it's a bit worrying when my 2014 Paperwhite, cranky as it is, still seems to work better than the newest model.
