Exclude the calibre library folder from your antivirus.

Hello Mumbai,
My Calibre library is in the "Documents" folder of W10, under the name "Calibration Library" and I can't exclude a folder from my Windows Defender anti-virus. I set my anti virus to accept Calibre and it didn't not change anything .... What else to do ??? |

You CAN exclude folders from Windows defender Scans and checks.
https://www.addictivetips.com/window...er-windows-10/ You can also temporarily turn off defender to see if that is the cause for the problem. Or not |

So, no, I don't think ..... my windows password is a mix of numbers and lowercase letters (6 in all).
I tried a database restore that failed: Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages \ template \ db \ restore.py", line 127, in run File "site-packages \ template \ db \ restore.py", line 279, in replace_db File "shutil.py", line 97, in copyfile IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: u'C: \\ Users \\ US2 \\ Documents \\ Calibration Library \\ metadata_pre_restore.db ' I NEVER had this problem before and without touching windows defender.. It's a real mystery !! |

Could you try the following procedure:
You could also try adding calibre's application collection to the allowed list in the Controlled Folder area but it was easier for me to move my calibre libraries into a new directory directly under my user directory (C:\Users\David\Calibre) and point calibre at the new locations. |

It could be Onedrive synching.
Recent versions of Windows 10 automatically synchronise the %USERRHOME%\Documents folder to OneDrive, for that reason since calibre version 3.30 the location of the default library changed from %USERRHOME%\Documents\Calibre Library to ???? - I'm not sure. This only affects new installations of course. Synching involves file locking and VSS trickery. IIRC you could exclude the Calibre Library folder in Documents from OneDrive synching; or you could pause Onedrive synching when you're using calibre; or you could move your library to a location that Onedrive won't synch automatically - such as %USERRHOME%\Calibre\Library. I would opt for the third option Move the library when calibre is not running, then when you start calibre it should ask where its library went and offer a dialogue to select the new location. BR |

Good Morning,
YES, BINGO, I followed your advice and changed the location of my "Caliber library": I put it in C: \ Users \ US2 \ Calibration Library and ALL is working normally ... but I don't understand why ! Why this new location is good...now ??? It's really odd, because when I installed Calibre yesterday on my second ASUS laptop, I did not have these problems ... and my folder is in C: \ Users \ NOUS2 \ Documents \ Calibration Library. This second computer has the same version of W10 ... Everything appeared on my HP desktop, why ???? Can you explain that to me ??? A HUGE THANK YOU to you ALL Have a very good day |

@Calibre69 - One of the features of Onedrive (Microsoft's equivalent of Dropbox, Google Drive etc) is that it can maintain a replica of designated folders on MS's cloud servers. A recent version of Windows added the user's Documents, Pictures, and Music folders to the default list of folders Onedrive will replicate to the cloud.
Prior to calibre version 3.30 a new install of Calibre would create its default library ("Calibre Library") in the users Documents folder. The design of the calibre software assumes it has exclusive access to the current library. But the advent of Onedrive's replication of the Documents by default means calibre and Onedrive are trying to access the same data concurrently. Since calibre version 3.30, the Welcome wizard creates the default library in the users Home directory, which removes it from Onedrive's default list of folders to replicate to the cloud. If you want to keep a copy of your library on your Onedrive 'account' use a file synch tool that can interoperate with Onedrive - most of them can. I won't speculate why things work on your ASUS and not on your HP, there are too many variables at play. I suggest you move your calibre libraries out of the Documents folder on both computers. There have also been issues with OneDrive and other cloud storage providers where they synchronize the Documents directory which can and does make calibre very unhappy. I generally find it easier to move the calibre library directories to where they will not be synchronized and then to save a backup where it will be synchronized. |

its probably too tricky to detect if sync is ON for one drive during an install, and to warn at that stage ? |
