Hmm. Seems like a decent voyage replacement.. some things are slightly better (waterproof, price), some things slightly worse (probably the build quality / materials)... some things about the same (weight). As a Voyage, Oasis 1 and 2 owner, not really seeing anything for me here. Was hoping that amazon would introduce either a new form factor or the different colored front light for reading at night like Kobo has. Maybe next year.

I hope Amazon avoids the gimmick next year, too. It's the Paperwhite. The display is white, like paper. They've warmed the color a bit on the last couple devices, but I'm thankful they avoided the ugly orange display setting.

I've ordered a Wifi 8gb without special offers. I wanted to replace my 4 year old Voyage which lives in my handbag. I didn't really want a paperwhite 3 as after using the Voyage I found that bulky. This seems ideal.

Ordered the 8gb WIFI model with Marine Blue cover. Never had a need for buttons or a color temp feature (I like it blue-ish) and I've never wished that my screen was larger; pocketable, sleek, symmetrical and a flush screen are important to me (I never warmed to my Oasis 2). A decent upgrade from my beloved Voyage, though not nearly as exciting as a new design would be.

It's no like you have to use the "warm light" feature. You can pretend it's not there (in this case you don't have to pretend).

Agreed. I have both Oases and a Voyage. The 7" is bigger than I like; I upgraded for the waterproof case so I could read in the tub again. I'd have happily gone back to a 6" if it had had a comfortlight, though I'd miss the page turn buttons (a little).

Why is Amazon bragging about warm light on Fires and the advantage of warm white light at night (all PC/mobile operating systems include it, too!) but not including it on Kindles? That's a very baffling omission, so they'd better have something to offer us soon. I know some people don't want it, and because of that, it will probably be configurable to be anywhere between a very noticeable reddish color and the cold white we've got now that is exactly what we shouldn't look at at night. However, it's something I've wanted for a while -- my reading preferences are more of a creamy off-white instead of the blueish-seeming pure white we have now.

All I can figure is that the Oasis 3 will include it. But when are we going to get said Oasis 3? And I'm hoping we'll get a 6" option again, but I'm fully expecting disappointment there. I'll deal with another Kindle that is now too big for my pockets if I can finally have the color temp I want in the display.

PW3 was 7th gen. But I don't really know what a new generation means. The screen is the same, just one more led. ("includes five LEDs and an adjustable front light")
I guess it has a better, clearer substrate so the text is more defined, easier to the eyes, but that's just my what I hope. So what makes a new generation? Is there any real tech advance with this new PW?

Needless to say, I already pre-ordered it. I'm not 20/20 anymore and reading is not an expensive hobby, so I can buy a new Kindle after 3 years. And maybe even get some money back selling my old, jailbroken PW3

I still want it, i just want a Fintie or Walnew case so i'll wait until they are available. My current case for the Voyage weighs 86gms, Amazon's new cases have a shipping weight of 169gms. Too heavy for me.

You know you don't have to push it all the way to orange, right?

I get the "options are good" argument. Fine. I just disagree from a design standpoint that a book-reading device should have a setting to "fix" the display color. How about we just get that color right to begin with? (The creamy/warmer white that most seem to agree is the most pleasant.)

The device is supposed to disappear. The story is all there is, not a whole bunch of settings to fiddle with.

What a disaster from a marketing standpoint would that be, to have photos out in the wild of orange-ish displays on a device named Paperwhite.

Note, Amazon is currently running a 25% discount with trade-in promo (regardless of Kindle condition).

I've got a bricked PW3 I plan on trading in for the 32GB wifi model (so by my calculations, $45 off + $5 trade-in value?). I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited and the PW4 comes with 6 months free so I figure that's equivalent to another $30 savings.

Most is not all (and may not even be 50+% majority). My taste runs towards a medium-dark sepia. Changing color tone is something I do once anyway, and never fiddle with again.
