Onyx boox note 10.3 charging

I am trying to charge the note from my macbook 13 inch (2018) from a usb-c to usb-c cable - it is not charging. It doesn't charge from my switch usb-c charger or from my macbook usb-c charger. It seems to only charge from the included usb-a to usb-c charger.

Is this normal? I primary machine is a macbook - I had to borrow a windows laptop with usb-a to see if it charges.

It works fine using a Nexus 5X charger (USB-C to USB-C), though others have reported problems using various USB-C to USB-C to chargers.

Apparently if you need to charge the device from a newer Macbook, you need to use a USB-C to USB-A cable, and an adaptor to plug the -A into the Macbook(!)

Wow. That’s really dumb. I might return it. Stupid to carry a dongle just for this.

The finicky charging is an issue, but on the whole I've been enjoying the device.

Well, I returned it. Just too much hassle to charge and sync.
