Request: how to connect to AP without internet?

Hi,

I would like to be able to use the web browser on a Kobo device (currently an Aura H20) to display HTML files served from an embedded device that doesn't have an internet connection. Is it possible to modify the Kobo so that it doesn't drop the WiFi connection if it can't access the internet?

Thanks,

Mark

The firmware checks a URL to when connecting. If it doesn't respond, or the results are wrong, it won't connect. There has been discussion on how to avoid this. But, as of the 4.9.x firmware, there is an option to ignore this check. Add the following to the config file on the device:

Code:
[FeatureSettings]
IgnoreCaptivePortal=true
If you already have a "FeatureSettings", just add the other line after it. And if you are using Windows to do this, make sure you use a Unix line-end aware editor such as Notepad++.

Thanks for the super quick response. I added that to .kobo/Kobo/Kobo eReader.conf, and powered off/on but it didn't make any difference.

I discovered a file called version that contains this:

N867730011075,3.0.35+,4.9.11311,3.0.35+,3.0.35+,00 000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000374

The AP can normally be used by a variety of other devices OK. It doesn't require any authentication.

Any other suggestions? Also, is it possible to see any logs to find out more about why it doesn't want to stay connected?

Thanks again.

Just thought, is that the right file to modify? I couldn't find any other obvious candidates.

No, you're right, that does work but for some reason it's a bit flaky and it won't connect every time.
