Cobb, Irvin S.: Fibble,D.D. (illus). v1. 14 Aug 2018
Meet Roscoe T. Fibble, Doctor of Divinity. From the pen of this prim and pompous young clergyman come the chronicles of his misadventures as he organizes a scouting expedition with a group of rowdy young boys; as he shepherds a flock of adolescent girls on a sight-seeing tour in France; as he succumbs to the yearnings of love for a lovely young teacher at the Fernbridge Seminary for Young Ladies in the village of Lover’s Leap, New Jersey, where he is on the faculty. Fibble is comically ludicrous, yet somehow endearing, in his enthusiasms, his naïveté, his Victorian prudishness, and his pretentiously ornate vocabulary from a bygone century.
* * * Irvin Shrewsbury Cobb (June 23, 1876 – March 11, 1944) was an American author, humorist, editor, and columnist from Paducah, Kentucky who relocated to New York in 1904 for the remainder of his life, writing for the New York World, The Saturday Evening Post, Cosmopolitan, and other newspapers and magazines. Cobb wrote more than 300 short stories and 60 books (most of these being collections of his stories and articles). Some of his works were adapted for film. He was one of America’s most popular humorists during the first third of the twentieth century. =================================== The contents of this book first appeared in The Saturday Evening Post 24 Oct. 1914, 25 Dec. 1915, and 07 Oct. 1916; Fibble D.D. was published later in 1916.
