I am a newbie here, an avid reader from AL. I've had my Kindle for 3 weeks and absolutely love it. Referred here by a Kindle friend.

Welcome. I too love my Kindle. Check out all the free books here and the information about how to use ebooks from public libraries.

Welcome NiNa! I'm assuming AL means Alabama. If you're interested in meeting some fellow ebook enthusiasts for lunch, join us in two weeks!

This Alabama native now living in Texas welcomes you to MobileRead.

So ... where in Alabama do you live? And the more important question: AU or UA?

I have a Kindle which I dearly love and a Sony PRS 505 which comes in a close second. I've spent entirely too much money in the Amazon Kindle store, but I've enjoyed all the books I've bought. I'm trying to be good from now until the end of the year and read what I already have on hand instead of buying more books. Those who know me know that "being good" isn't easy to accomplish.

As Dreamer says, be sure to go to the MobileRead Meet-up on the 25th. I really wish I could be there, but my calendar just will not permit it.

what a great invitation... I've had my Kindle 3 weeks and tying to connect with some others in the area. Unfortunately I will be at a work related meeting in Chicago the 23, 24, 25 returning on the 26th. What a bummer!!

Hi Elsi, I live in Alabaster, Al about 25 miles south of B'ham. I am a dire hard AUBURN fan; WAR EAGLE!

Thanx to all of you for the warm welcome. This is all new to me so how do I find the freebies here? Any suggestions for a good first read form this site?

NiNa, I know exactly where Alabaster is located. And, having graduated from Auburn and paid for one child to graduate from Auburn, I am definitely a fan.

So, how to get started with the free books from here. Easiest thing to do is to power up your Kindle, turn the antenna on, then open the experimental browser and go to this URL:
https://www.mobileread.com/mobiguide

MobileRead's MobiPocket Guide will download to your Kindle. Then, just browse through all the luscious books in the Guide, read the descriptions, and download any that you're interested in ... directly to the Kindle.

To download through your browser, click the E-Books link on the blue menu bar just below the MobileRead logo/icon. Download any book in MobiPocket format (.mobi or .prc) and then transfer to your Kindle using the USB cable.

Hmmmm... a first book. What kind of books do you like to read?

Hi Neighbor!

YAY Auburn! And Go Blazers!... (and take the Barons with you)... We are UAB staff/alumni/fans rooting for the home team, because somebody needs to.

I'm in Hueytown. Dang, I wish you could make it to our picnic.

Nice to have another Bham'er on the Board!
