It's October 1st. What's the big news from Sony? Was the hype all about some guy sitting in a store front reading books? If that's the case, Big frickin' deal!

I got to hand it to Sony. They announced that something will happen on October 2nd and they have been able to keep it a secret all this time. Nobody has any idea what the "announcement" will be. That's pretty good considering how big the company is and how many parties are probably involved in this.

It might not be the people that will probably say anything but it might be like what we see in Engadget where a placeholder in a computer for a new item is in there or maybe an accessory manufacturer lets out the shape of the item (ala Apples new iPod Nano).

It must be a new backlit e-ink reader. They want it to be dark enough for the audience to be impressed. Yes, backlit. Probably a really intense LED that would illuminate the entire eastern seaboard if it was unleashed from the case.

Sure you can, Nate. Just need a light source intense enough, although probably more light would come out the back through the melting enclosure than through the opaque e-ink screen.

I saw a huge Sony 505 display in Target about an hour ago. It was bundled with some free book. It also had a bunch of accessories next to it. I betcha this was the great big announcement. (I've never seen them in Target before.)
