Rules for syncing with Dropbox?

I can't seem to find a straight answer to this:

When I'm adding books to calibre or editing titles etc, is there anything special I have to do with Dropbox?

I've read here and there that you have to "stop" dbox while editing, or have I misunderstood ?

How do you even stop dbox from syncing?

(I am using all the latest versions of Dropbox, Calibre and Linux.)

It would be best to stop syncing while Calibre is open, yes. Also run the Library Maintenance regularly and check for errors (right-click on the Library icon and choose Library Maintenance -> Check Library).

As for how to stop syncing, click on the Dropbox icon and go to the Settings, there is an option Pause Syncing there.

Definitely pause syncing while editing a book, adding/editing metadata, or while upgrading. Click on the Dropbox icon and hover over the bottom left and Pause Syncing (see attached) will be an option click on that to pause syncing. After you click on to pause syncing it will change to Syncing paused (see attached). Follow the same steps to resume syncing.

I tend to forget about this, so I just set Dropbox not to automatically run at Start Up, then run it periodically after I've closed Calibre. I do tend to forget to run it as often as I'd like, but I'd really rather not bork up my Calibre database file.
