E-book viewer issues after 3.16
When Calibre updated to 3.17 I discovered the E-book Viewer was no longer working correctly for me on my MacBook. When viewing epub's, it opens the E-book Viewer window and displays a large blue square with ? in the centre. Unable to view the ebook at all. When viewing a mobi or azw, similar and it will mostly display the text, but has trouble with some content and doesn't display images within the ebook. Same problem with 3.18, 3.19 and 3.20. When I revert to 3.16 the viewer works fine again. Have renamed viewer.json and let it be recreated, but no change.
Has anyone encountered this issue before? Happy to leave on 3.16 for now but would like to figure out what's causing it. Thanks. |

Works for me. You can probably get more information by opening the console (right click in the viewer text area and choose Inspect) and loon for error messages in the console.

Reinstalled 3.20.
Opened an ePub, followed your instructions, and the following error is displayed under Console: Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) https://calibre-internal.invalid/ron...ges/cover.jpeg Will not scroll through or display any pages. Went back to 3.16, and displayed fine, no errors. Can try completely deleting Calibre and all config settings and reinstall, but don't want to go through the hassle of reconfiguring again and reinstalling the DeDRM tools etc... |

I doubt this has anything to do with config, but simply rename ~/Library/Preferences/calibre to try it with a blank config.

Nope, made no difference. Same issue with single sample ePub doc. Stuffed if I know what the issue is then...

It's likely something to do with the ~/Library/Caches on your machine (the viewer changed to storing its temp file there around that time). Is it on some sort of networked storage or something?

No it doesn't appear to be that. It's located on the SSD volume.
The Calibre library (only) is located on a SD card in my MacBook. |

I cannot think of anything else that has changed in the viewer in the last six months that could possibly cause this. See https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibr...re/gui2/viewer
for a list of changes. |

Deleted Calibre and did a completely clean install. Unfortunately same issue. Guessing it must be an issue with macOS 10.12.6. Looks like I'm stuck on 3.16 for now, which isn't really an issue. Thanks for your assistance, as always.

Another thing you can try is changing the location of hte cache directory calibre uses by setting the CALIBRE_CACHE_DIRECTORY environment variable as described here: https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/cus...ment-variables
