Question Need Boox Max help

I have a somewhat unusual use for my Boox Max Carta, and I am looking for app suggestions. I play weekly with a ukulele club in an outdoor environment and the e-ink display, screen size, and light weight are ideal for use as my music book. What I need is the means to quickly close a (single page) pdf song sheet and open a new one selected from a long list, and hopefully to do so quicly and without using the hardware buttons on the Boox. I am primarily concerned with the life span of those buttons, but secondly, actuating the buttons with the device sitting on my deep shelf music stand at some distance from me is a bit awkward.

Now here's the rub. The built in STORAGE function launches a pdf in a way which leaves a back arrow on the top line which I can tap on to exit the pdf reader. This is good. What is not good about the STORAGE function is that the icons are so outrageously large that the number of selections on a single page is very small and I cannot seem to page scroll with the stylus. So I have tried several different android file managers which give me quite reasonable means to select and launch my pdfs. But now the pdfs do not have a soft button way to exit.

I have tried to find a compatible “soft back key” app but to no avail. Any suggestions? Also, I am looking for the fastest stable pdf reader. Don't need any features, just display the pdf. The fastest I have found so far is the Google PDF Reader, but it sometimes goes off to lala land.

Interesting... I have a different device (Max 2), and different requirements, but one of my use cases is with many 1-page documents that I would like to open quickly, and also select quickly - possibly based on file name (that is, having just the file name displayed would fit the bill).

Or, what might do the trick is to use some appropriate software to take the whole lot of PDF files, and merge them into a single documents with a functional table of contents - with, like, a single TOC line to link to each page. Then all we'd need would be reading software that supports following an internal link, and going back - ideally, with the option to map the "back" function to one of the device's buttons.

Now if anybody has a suggestion, there's two of us that would be interested (provided it will work on both devices - it might be easier to do on the Max 2).

Another Ukulele player here currently using a 13" iPad Pro as a music book.

I wonder if either of you could try loading Jim's Ukulele Songbook (http://ozbcoz.com/songbooks/) which is a large pdf (over 2000 Pages) with live index links to the songs in the contents page.

Navigation on the iPad is pretty good, but I wonder if it is acceptable on eink bearing in mind we do not have a lot of time in between songs to find the next.

You could give ReLaunchX launcher a try. Its built for ereaders, and has many customization features.

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=284418

For your case, it displays files in a folder in a list view, which is pretty condensed. around 20 files per page in 2 columns in my 6inch tab.
I used it for a few months, but then switched back to the default launcher.

There is a library view and a launcher mode. Best results are when you use it as a launcher.

The pdf reader Librera is also e-ink compatible and features a library view of its own. It is decent for opening pdfs, but has problems with some complex files.

For floating back button and previous app switcher, I use this
