KA1 light compared to early releases of Kobo Glo
Just wondering if anyone with Kobo Aura One has an early Kobo Glo to compare the front light with. More particularly, the lowest brightness level on each.
A little background.... I haven't had any real justification to buy a new ereader, since mine is working 5 years on, pretty much as well as day 1 (especially as I haven't updated the firmware in 2 years ![]() I have wanted a waterproof ereader since the first H2O, love the idea of a big screen for reading at home, and like the idea of adjustment levels of the blue-ness of the light, BUT! It's really important to me that the lowest setting for the front light is VERY low. My Kobo Glo was a bit disappointing in that respect as when I am having insomnia, it wakes me up more. I have incredibly sensitive eyes and am prone to migraines, so the low setting can't really be too dull imo. I will eventually make it to my local chapters, but as I injured my foot and can't wear shoes/boots, plus there are mountains of snow outside, it might be awhile before I make it there. So if anyone has those two devices (particularly the original glo that people complained was too bright), I'd appreciate a comparison sooner than I can make it in person. ![]() |

This should be pretty much a release day Glo vs Aura One. Both set to 1% and night lighting OFF on the KA1.

Something to consider: even if the light is too bright, changing the color will make it easier on your eyes.

@robko
Thanks! That shows it very clearly....looks like a huge improvement for me. and as you say ZodWallop, the ability to change the colour tone should help as well. Looks like all is in favour of a brand shiny new KA1. Too bad chapters left it off their boxing day sales :-p |

What you want is exactly WHY I upgraded from my older (but mint condition Glo) to the KA1. I read mostly in bed at night and the light was way too bright. Although my Glo was in amazing working condition I forked over the cash for the KA1 just for it's lower light setting and color changing ability (oh how I love the warm Amber glow of its light at night -- so much easier to read). And the overdrive function is an incredible added bonus. I now rarely pay for books and just borrow them all from my local library right onto my kobo with no side loading (who has time for that)?
You won't be dieaponted. I say go for it! |

Thanks Catherine for your input!
Sounds like it'll make a real difference for my night-time reading, which, like you, is when I read the most....the other time being in the bath (with my phone which is waterproof, but well, not e-ink...). And I do borrow from Overdrive a lot, so it seems to be win-win-win. Thanks! Now I'm getting super excited at the idea of a new ereader :-D |

My Glo years back was so blue and bright even at 1%.. I don't have it anymore but it was my biggest concern.. (was launch unit too).
