Hello everyone, Google search wasn't helpful as well as Kobo support team. My ancient Kobo Wireless doesn't display Russian books properly. It shows question marks instead of Cyrillic symbols. This forum is my last hope. Does anyone have an idea what could be an issue? I can send any additional information helpful for diagnostics.
Thanks a mil! |

here is what fixed the issue:
1. Installed Calibre 2. Calibre told me that it doesn't support Kobo's software and asked if I wanted to configure Kobo. I agreed to it 3. I added an ePub book and converted it while embedding Liberation Sans font. 4. Copied the book to the main memory through calibre. 5. Said YAY! outlood happy that I can finally read Russian books |

Good you found a solution. The newer devices support sideloading fonts and then you can select the font when reading. I don't know if this can be done on the WiFi or not.
Are you sure it was a doesn't support message? The current version of calibre should support all Kobo devices and all released firmware versions. And for the WiFi, there hasn't been a new firmware release for a long time. So, unless you installed a very old version of calibre, there should be no problems. |

Unfortunately the builtin fonts have not been updated by Kobo for a long time and we are stuck with subpar fonts on our devices.
You could mitigate the issue to some extent by (either/both) sideloading your own fonts and deleting some of the fonts bundled with the firmware (be aware that some of the default fonts are required for the main user interface). As far as i know, it’s not possible to replace the builtin fonts because the ttf files shipped with the firmware are encoded in an unknown way.
