All has been fine for about a month but now when I try to add .epub files to convert it gives me this error.
Any suggestions on what is wrong? Pdfs can be added with no issues. calibre, version 3.14.0 WARNING: Errors while adding: There were problems adding some files, click "Show details" for more information ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Failed to add the file /Users/categibson/Documents/Ebook Files(Novels & Recipe Books)/Eaternity.epub to the book: /Users/categibson/Documents/Ebook Files(Novels & Recipe Books)/Eaternity With error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/add.py", line 430, in add_formats File "site-packages/calibre/db/cache.py", line 1410, in add_format File "site-packages/calibre/startup.py", line 122, in local_open IOError: [Errno 21] Is a directory: u'/Users/categibson/Documents/Ebook Files(Novels & Recipe Books)/Eaternity.epub' |

That's not an epub file, its a directory whose name ends with .epub
These are typically created by apple software like ibooks. A bit of googling should find you some scripts to convert these directories back to actual epub files. |

Can you possibly answer 2 questions about implementing this script for a non-coder?
1) Must I edit anything to match my own paths (or anything else?) 2) How best get the string (don't even have a py file) into Automator for Mac/Catalina? Thanks for any help |

Hmmm... 4 years after the last post in the thread and responding about a script without giving the name of the script or the site from which it was obtained.
Perhaps a bit more information might have been helpful? |

I seem to recall there used to be a script posted by maybe pdurrant that would recreate an Epub that had been opened on a Mac.

I'm not certain if he is using @pdurrant's scrip since that does not require much other than allowing it to run in the Privacy and Security app. There is also eCanCrusher which I tried a couple of times which does much the same converting between a directory and an epub file.

Calibre expects ePub-files to be zip-compressed.
If you right-click (or control-click) on the file and get the option to "Show Package Contents", the file is actually a folder. You can simply choose "Compress" from the context menu in Finder. This will create a "name.epub.zip" file. Now rename it to "name.epub" and add it to Calibre! No script necessary ![]() |
