New Kindle Paperwhite and Transferring Content
I just received my new Paperwhite after bricking my 2012 - Gen 5 PW. I was pleasantly surprised that all of my personal documents & folders transferred via USB to the new Kindle, keeping all of my notes and highlights. I did not have any of these saved on the Amazon cloud and thought they would only be read by my old Kindle PW. I was prepared to email all of these to my new Kindle and start over on notes and highlights.
From what I've read, I didn't think this was possible. The same applies for all of my eBooks that weren't protected or purchased from Amazon. I only had some issues with book covers, but Calibre handled that. Bookmarks and Notes were still there after a direct USB transfer. Amazing! I expected a lot more work to switch to a new Kindle...... ![]() |

Glad everything is working out for you!
![]() How were you able to transfer your documents if your original kindle was bricked? Did you keep a backup on your computer? |

Yes, I actually use an "imaging" program to image my Kindle 1-2 times a week. It's the same imaging program I use on my computer drives. A really small, compact program from Germany that I have used for years: Drive Snapshot. It has saved my computers and data numerous times!!!
http://www.drivesnapshot.de/en/index.htm It takes less than 1 minute. You can then double click on the image and the contents mounts and opens in a Windows File Explorer window. You just copy your document folder content to the new Kindle. You can also reinstall the image to the Kindle, but that doesn't really restore your Kindle like it does a computer. There are a number of complicated reasons why it doesn't, but it does get all of the files back on the Kindle; however, the Kindle will not be the same, unlike a computer.
