Is it possible to turn off kindle? I've researched in many places, but only restart. My kindle is Paperwhite 7. Thanks, if anybody helps. Sorry if I posted in the wrong place. |

No, you can't turn it off.

Perhaps you could explain what it is you're actually trying to achieve. People will then be in a better position to advise you.

you can't turn off a kindle. If the battery runs completely down it will show a battery symbol on the screen and reset when you charge it. To reset it otherwise, hold the power button down for 40 seconds. Other than that, there is no way to actually shut it off and turn it on the next time you want to read. |

Lists of the search bar commands have been posted in the dev corner multiple time. A little bit of searching should find them for you.

As I understand it, "shipping mode" also de-registers and resets the Kindle to factory settings, so not a practical solution if one is looking to simply turn off one's Kindle. But it does explain why a newly delivered Kindle will be "off."

You can turn the screen off, though it doesn't turn off the device itself. You can do this by holding down the power button until the restart menu appears, then clicking turn off screen. Though I must admit I'm not sure why anyone would want to.

What is the difference between when I press the power button to turn off my KOA2 or when I close the cover? I ask this because when I use the power button and turn it back on it just comes on but when I have the magnetic cover shut for a while I see a "waking up" message at the bottom of the screen when I open the cover. Is this a different "state"? Last edited by radamo; 11-13-2017 at 04:31 PM. |

Put it to sleep with the power button, let it sleep for at least 2 hours, wake it up, and let us know what happens.

Ah, so this doesn't seem to be possible. For some reason I'm not a big fan of sleep mode though but that's just me.

I think the Kindles only have a sleep mode (and not an "off") because they use NO power while displaying an image. Just when *changing* the image to another image. So "going to sleep" while displaying something uses up no power. As I understand it. |
