The Dale M. Courtney Writing Appreciation Thread
Rather than continuing to invade other threads with 'Courtneyisms," I decided to create this new thread wherein all things relevant to Dale M. Courtney can find easy placement.
To start: There is a current theory that Dale M. Courtney is actually blind and that he dictated his story to a young child (perhaps 3 or 4 in age?), which would explain much of the abuse of the English language in his 'novel'. Mind you, this is only a theory that is being bandied about on the internet. My theory is quite different, but involves Ed Wood and a group of smart-alicky aliens who failed 9 times to conquer the earth. Let me explain: I feel that aliens from Outer Space, having failed to take over the earth (as recounted in that non-fiction film opus, "Plan 9 From Outer Space") have initiated a new attempt to conquer all of earth, one tentatively code-named "Plan 10 From Outer Space." Their plan is to write a science fiction 'novel' so bad and so illiterate that the hapless earth people who read it will relax their guard when Phase Two is started and will be unable to resist The Invasion, which will result in the Total Annihilation of human life. Needless to say, Phase One (corresponding to the release of the first volume in the "Moon People" series) has been a great success for the aliens. Even now, they are planning Phase Two. If you have a particular "Courtneyism" quote or you hear further news, please do not hesitate to adopt a silly grin on your face and post any news, results, or thoughts you may have on this subject. |

I don't feel qualified to criticise. Dale M. Courtney's writing has managed to garner more attention than any of my work. ... I feel that perhaps I have had it wrong all this time. I wonder if he's willing to give lessons.

New Discovery!
Apparently, there is an EXCERPT from Dale M. Courtney's "Moon People," in an anthology titled "The New New Ultra Weird." Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/New-Ultra-Wei...ew+ultra+weird Publisher's description: Be Prepared. You find yourself in a world of astronauts and aliens, of barbarians and fairies, of angels and teenage eldritch gods. Man-eating porn stars, feral environmentalists, color-shifters, cemented time-travelers, babies birthed from fish bowls. What is this strange and beautiful place? Feed Your Fiction Addiction. These stories are gritty, spicy, slightly neurotic. They're hot and cold, black and white, soft and sharp. Witness fresh hot authors of fiction in their debut, but be careful--you might get burned! A genre descended from editorial slush piles, vanity presses, and scribbled napkins, this is the absolute best of the New New Ultra Weird. This canonic anthology chronicles the development of a legendary new genre from its humble origins to its great acclaim by Gary Busey himself. You don't want to miss the New New Ultra Weird! Unfortunately, the book does not appear to be in ebook form. Also, I found this piece of FRIGHTENING INFORMATION: Dale M. Courtney works for National Security on the part of foreign policies, war strategy, and global economic equality, and has served ... He also served in the Army and toured Korea for a year. Moon People is set to be a film by 2016, directed by J. J. Abrams and starring Harrison Ford. ... He really wanted to teach anyway. A MOVIE! A MOVIE! A MOVIE! WOW! Are you new to the writing of David M. Courtney?
Well, never fear! I've thoughtfully attached page 1 from his novel, "Moon People." It just gets better! WOW! |

It's a bummer that this must have been delayed (I'm sure that's it.) It's not like Harrison Ford has anything else to do now that he has been replaced by Alden Ehrenreich in the Star Wars movies.

Yes, if it's true. I haven't been able to find anything further on this, so the info may be bogus. |

It's like...anti partial e.e.cummings. Editted: Actually, it sort of reminds me of the infamous (and strangely hilarious in a car smash kinda way) "My Immortal" fanfiction story - said to be the worst fanfic ever written. Although, arguments still rage about whether it's a huge wind up or...tragically real. I lean towards the satire theory. It nails every cliché (atrocious spelling, inconsistencies, Mary Sue to the Max etc). To be honest, I haven't read much passed the first chapter because...ouch. The above link isn't the original version of the story I "read" but like Dale's classic, the comments on the original were better than the story. Last edited by skb; 10-18-2017 at 04:39 PM. |

I am assuming it is 100% bogus personally. It is fun to think it might be real and laugh about it but JJ Abrams and Harrison Ford? Really? That's well beyond my ability to suspend my disbelief.

While it's gained more attention, it's totally unreadable before you even read word one.

But this comment on the story summed it up for me: No matter how unintentionally funny the manuscript is, I really feel bad for Theis. I said and did and wrote some remarkably silly and awful things when I was that age, and every time I think about it I'm grateful that most of it has been lost in the depths of time or to pre-archive bit rot. I think that one of the ugliest things about living in the future is the death of forgetting. I can only imagine what 15 minutes of fame on Encyclopedia Dramatica, archived in perpetuity for all your future ex-friends to find, does to your view of humanity. |

The title of the thread is incorrect. There is no way we can appreciate Moon People.
