Kindle Trade in program for all new Oasis

I am confused about this trade in deal for the all new Kindle Oasis.

Kindle Trade-In

I checked and my Voyage trade in was $65 plus the $20 credit that would be $85 I could use for the new Oasis.

Are you supposed to trade in first before ordering the Oasis? And do you go Kindle-less for weeks while waiting for the Oasis to arrive later in November?

Too bad Woot ran out of the refurbished Kindles mentioned in this thread (maybe they'll get more):

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=291101

You could have bought a refurb Kindle 5th gen for $19 from Woot, sent it to Amazon for their posted trade-in value of $20 plus the additional $20 coupon, and come out +/- $20 ahead. Probably not worth the effort though, since Amazon puts the Kindle's on sale pretty frequently I think.

What did Kindle Customer Service have to say when you asked them?
They are the people who know all of the rules, or at least they should be.

And did you mean "pre-ordering"?
You can't "order" the new Oasis now, you can only "pre-order" it (it hasn't been released yet - only announced to create Internet Buzz).

I traded-in a Paperwhite in June of this year, and they placed the trade-in value as a credit in my Amazon account. This can be used for any Amazon purchase, so you could wait until the new Oasis arrives and then trade-in the Voyage.

The gotcha is that you will receive the $20 credit towards the purchase of a Kindle but it will apply to your NEXT purchase of a Kindle, which would not be the Oasis. I seem to recall speaking with Amazon customer service about this, and they offered some sort of accommodation, although I can't recall what that was (I was considering the purchase of a Voyage or Oasis at the time).

Anyways, you may want to call Amazon customer service and see what they will do. I certainly wouldn't go without a Kindle for a month or more.

I am glad Amazon offers the trade-in option, but my plan is to sell my original Oasis here on mobileread once I have the new one in hand. I’ll probably get more than the trade-in value, yet it will give another mobileread member an opportunity to upgrade from an older kindle at a huge discount. I did this on my last two upgrades. It took away the sting of the new kindle cost and I think the buyers felt they got a good deal. Win-Win.
Thanks, Joe

I think if you have a good kindle you have been using so far, better to give it to a friend/family member. The value would be higher than what Amazon is crediting you for, IMO.

If you follow the link shared in the first post, and trade in your kindle with amazon, they will give you an amazon gift card for the amount they say they will pay you for it, plus an additional $20 credit towards a new kindle. Hope that makes sense for you.

I tried for years with family, friends, co-workers, no takers.
Reasons: read on phone, on IPad, on tablet, read only magazines, only paper books.
A friend even remembered having an old Kindle somewhere in her basement.

But, I did give away older pc's, an 8.9 Galaxy tab and first two IPads.

I wonder if I should keep the Voyage, and just leave it in the car for when I go out to the coffee shop or work? And use the new Oasis at home. That feels so decadent to me.

I did that once. Tried to cool it off over the following hour. I reset it and fired it up. Works fine now, but sure scared me for awhile when it wasn't responding.

Anyone know if they let you trade in two Kindles and get the $20 credit for both devices?

I traded in a Kindle PW (latest generation) as well as a basic Kindle (latest generation) via the Amazon trade in deal. Both Kindles were shipped together and delivered on 4 October. I have yet to receive anything from Amazon as to whether they have accepted the trade-in price. I called them around the 11th or 12th and was told that if I didn't receive confirmation of the trade-in by 25 October to call them back. Three weeks seems a bit long to me based on prior trade-ins I've done on Amazon in the past...
