Darken text in Calibre??

I have just purchased Hillary Clinton's new book "What Happened" in both epub and MOBI formats and uploaded them to my Calibre (Windows desktop/current version). The text in both formats is rather dim and faint. How do I darken it? Thank you!

The problem is most likely that there are embedded fonts that are too light. You'd have to remove the DRM and use the Calibre editor to remove the fonts. from the ePub and the font-family coding from the CSS. It's not hard to do.

Thank you for the suggestion. Is there a step-by-step guide for that somewhere on this site?

I opened the epub in the Calibre Editor, removed the fonts, and then saved the changes. The book is now showing the default font settings that I have in the preferences. Is this the procedure you were suggesting or am I missing a step?

cleanup (if you care and these are for your own use)
You removed the font files (OTF,TTF)?

in the CSS (or inline) there are @font declarations, font-family:,font family name that matches the @font)

BTW the Modify epub plugin has an option to BLINDLY remove embedded fonts. AKA All or not. This does clean up the @font as well (it does not mention the font-family, so it is possible that your device may have that and use it)

Yes, this is what I meant.

Did you also edit the CSS to remove the @font and any of the font-family lines?

I am ashamed to say that I would need a remedial explanation of how to access and edit the CSS!

Use the Calibre eBook editor. Then you can edit the CSS and remove any of the font-family lines as well as the @font sections.

A section is between two braces like this...

Code:
@font-face {
font-family: Charis;
font-style: normal;
font-weight: normal;
src: url(fonts/CharisSILR.ttf);
}
