Kindle Paperwhite Shipping Firmware

I would like to get a Paperwhite and I would also like to jailbreak it. Does anyone know if it ships with the latest firmware, or not? If so, I will be unable to jailbreak it.

But you still have the "30 day, no questions asked" return policy to fall back on.

Amazon has always been pretty good about returns, so if the latest PW doesn't suit your needs, I'm sure you can get your money back.

That being said, Amazon will crack down on customers who they feel are abusing the liberal return policy. We see this 'complaint' a lot in the photo community. There is a sort of person who will churn their way through a series of recently released cameras just to satisfy their curiosity.

Saw it on cases for tablets too. Oh and one lady on another forum complained that she couldn't return ebooks anymore. She would read and return every ebook. They did take away her returns.

I don't have to own a Kindle to know that buying a Kindle these days is a crap shoot for jailbreaking. And there's a chance if you buy multiple Kindles to try to get one with an old enough firmware could get your account banned.

They do ban accounts. You can still buy from Amazon. According to the people that had excessive returns, they cut off return privileges.
Oh and Walmart does the same thing. You return 6 vacuum cleaners in 6 weeks, after the third one, you get store credit. After #6, you get to keep vacuum cleaner #7.

You don't have a year to wait.
It will update to a firmware version that can not be jailbroken as soon as you let it connect with the internet.
Amazon does not warn you or ask permission, their system just does it.

Actually one way to wait a year (if even possible depending on the firmware version the PW shipped with) is to do what I do--never connect it to the internet and side load everything to it with Calibre.

My Voyage is currently running Firmware Version 5.7.4 and I'm perfectly happy with it--haven't felt the need to either update the firmware or jail break it.

It doesn't matter. The factory firmware that comes with the Kindle is susceptible to install a bin file, as long as you haven't updated it.

If somehow it came with an update already, you can always return to Amazon within 30 days, worst case scenario they'll charge 3£

Maybe. It is getting about time for the newest manufacture. It is completely possible within one month the kindles will be shipped with the unbreakable firmware.
My best guess is 6 months at the outset.
Even now if they ship with 5.8.8, it can't be broke.
The only firmware being shipped right now that it might be possible is 5.8.9.0.1.
This is on PW and greater.

There is also no found serial on the Oasis.
