Setting custom columns with a value based on a keyboard shortcut?
I have some text I add to a person column so I can easily filter books based on if they are for me, my wife or my son.

Currently I have to edit the metadata, switch to the custom tab, start typing the name and then select the name before saving.

I'd like to be able to select a bunch of books then click CTRL + {letter of my choice} to automatically set the text in that column.

Is this possible?

It just so happens, yes. You have good timing. An upcoming version of my Job Spy+ plug-in has a new GUI Tool that can do that. I am currently testing it on the Calibre 2.99.13 Beta for Calibre 3. I should release it later this week after I have finished with it.

Select a bunch of books, press the E key which will open the bulk metadata edit dialog, type in the name, press OK.

And if instead of a person column you use a enumerated column (a column with a fixed set of permitted values), you wont even need to do the typing in part
