It would seem a great size for PDFs, manga, etc., where you need a larger page, and it certainly would lose its portability and be a stay-at-home only reader because of its size.

But the surface seems highly reflective for an ereader, even more so than LCD screens. That shiny surface would make reading unbearable for me and I'd stay away from it even it rolled up to fit into a back pocket or what other features it might have.

An eInk Reader with a glass display should never go in a pocket for the rick of breaking increases dramatically.

Jon: I think you need to turn of the bot that makes that post every time someone mentions putting something in their pocket.

And:

I've been putting my ereaders in my pockets for years. I haven't broken one yet. In fact, putting them in my pockets is actually protecting them.

I wonder if the screen really is more reflective or are the lights just that bright.

where are you getting this? it's a mobius display, made of plastic. there is no glass. the video even shows the device folded over quite a few times.

I learned this the hard way—with two inkBOOK screens.

I would think being able to fold it up would help protect the screen against damage if it's dropped. That would be a real plus. Kindle fire has a shiny surface too, but not so bad as to make it hard to read. Just a matter of how you hold it relative to lights etc.

The thing that breaks and kills an eink screen is a thin glass substrata. The eInk "Mobius" display tech. has a plastic substrata. This is especially needed for any large screen that cannot be incased in a rigid mount. If a display is to be handled, it needs to be relatively small or have an unbreakable substrata.

Anyone who pockets their reader should want one with a plastic substrata, whatever its size.

Luck;
Ken

I would like to have the 42" display as a computer monitor.

True if:

1. the face is turned towards your body
2. not in your back pocket
3. be very careful of what else you put in that pocket
4. not in a pocket so that it can fall out or be hit by a piece of equipment
5. etc., etc...

and finally don't forget it is there.

I often put mine in a vest pocket. It is an NRA vest with left and right concealed carry pockets. The one on the right side gets my AuraHD and the one on the left gets my Samsung S7 Active.

This might not be fair as I have both in hardened cases, that make it hard to twist or impact the screen.

Luck;

The glossy screen kills it for me, but this size, especially with folding, is a complete gamechanger. PDFs are almost totally usable on 7.8", and this will bring the idea of reading rigid formats like PDFs (for students, academia, etc.) to the masses.

I hope they'll actually release it.

Only a Eink prototype demo that any company can adapt to their firmware. Which company will first use this design and how long exclusive to that company and price are my questions.
